In his last 17 starts, Johan Santana is an incredible 14-2 with a 1.57 ERA and 163 strikeouts. He's allowed only 61 hits and 25 walks in 126 1-3 innings. He lowered his ERA for the season to 2.95 and raised his AL-leading strikeout total to 224.

Yes, but people would much rather give the ball to Pedro.

I inherited a fantasy baseball keeper league team with Johan Santana and Ben Sheets, both at under $20...... :)

Barring a total breakdown by him, I don't see how you give the Cy Young to anyone other than Santana. He leads the AL in ERA (2.85, 2nd is 3.11), WHIP (0.94, 2nd is 1.11), BAA (.196, 2nd is .230), and strikeouts (233, 2nd is 201), and tied for 2nd in wins (17, 1st is 18).

I agree, it'll be close, but I think he deserves it. Those numbers are ungodly when you consider he did nothing for the first 6 weeks of the season.

Another interesting fact. Santana's ERA has gone down EVERY SINGLE GAME since the last week in May. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif

3 starts in September, 8 hits, 0 runs, 27 Ks, 3 W's.

A pretty good start towards a third straight pitcher of the month award.

Methinks that Johan has given up 8 hits in his last 3 starts.

Another start, another 8 shutout innings for Santana with a win. His September numbers:

4 starts, 15 hits, 0 runs, 41 Ks, 29.0 IP, 4 W's.
