My dear mother- and father-in-law, as well as my sister-in-law and her family, live next to Jupiter, FL - pretty much where one of the edges of the eye is at currently. They're doing ok (their houses are not mobile homes or a house boat), they just wish it would move faster. Fortunately, it's not packing the punch of Charley, it's being stubborn. I told my wife the kind of day/night they are having, it sounds like a typical early Spring day along the Front Range of the Rockies (with the persistent winds, not the rain though).

My wife's brother and sister and their spouses live near Ft. Pierce. So far so good for them. We're getting ready for what's left of it to hit us around Monday.

I was in virginia during Isabel, and it sucked bad enough. Good luck to all left, and safety.

Well, I'm here in Jax, nothing more than the occasional breeze and gust here and there. Tomorrow could be a rainy one, depending on what this storm decides to do.

Geraldo Rivera is everywhere, I guess this is the assignment he gets after the debacle over in the Mid-East.

maybe he should draw a map in the sand showing the predicted path of the storm...
It has just been alot of wind and little rain. The Florida State and Miami will get cancelled again because of Hurricane Ivan. This sucks because next week we have to brace another 24/7 news cast on the hurricane.

Nothing here yet. Actually, with a nice breeze and it being overcast, this is the most comfortable I've been since about March.
Looks like south of J-Ville is getting a tornado right now.

Take care down there, Flasch. That also goes for the rest of you guys who still have power to read this. It looks like central FLA is taking a good-sized pounding from this one.

Our lights have started flickering, as the first squall line comes through. I'm signing off.

Semi off topic, We just got through a couple of fairly severe earthquakes here.
I was eating dinner with my coworker when the first one hit. It was hilarious how he freaked out. I don't believe they killed anyone. But they caused a lot of trouble.

I've returned to having powe here in j'ville, after 3 false starts. On my side of town, westside, lots of rain heavy wind in spurts. Also, many tree limbs and debris all over.
Just now, small tree partially laying on roof across street.
This is just amazing, worst weather in all my 33 years in j'ville.

Let's not talk about that one. Florida can't take on another one of these monster storms. Hopefully, It'll pass way, way south of Florida.

Well, after a quick squall line really got things going, we've now had about 5 hours of little rain and wind. But it looks like a nice line is moving toward us and should be here shortly.
As for Ivan...I don't want to think about it. It should be a Cat 5 by tomorrow. And it's scheduled to be in a position to hit Florida by this time next week. And I'm supposed to fly to Alaska next Friday. Not good.

better now, lost power for about 24 hours and the wind howled all night....small branches and some trees knocked down but we made it. One lesson learned, I will never wait outy a Hurricane of any magnitude, especially a direct hit....I will be outta here. If 60-70MPHY winds did this, nooooooway will i try to make it through 100+ winds.

Well, just like Bonnie, this one was a total dud. Amazingly, being so close to the center actually worked to our advantage. We got some 30+ MPH gusts, and it's rained all day, but that's it. Not one rumble of thunder, no howling winds, nothing. I think power went out for 5000 people elsewhere in the city for a few hours. Meanwhile, Hilton Head gets 2 tornadoes.
Not that I'm complaining, but since I invested 4 days in watching this damn thing develop, the least it could do was entertain me while I sat on my ass doing nothing.

Be careful what you wish for. Back in '96 when Fran hit North Carolina, my roommate at State was planning on a trip to Wrightsville Beach near Wilmington with his youth group only to have it cancelled because of Fran's approach. I believe his words (almost exact) were: "That thing better (expletive)-ing hit Wrightsville Beach." Fran made landfall (where else) near Wrightsville Beach. We then got the storm ripping through our neck of the woods at NC State a few hours later. That was a wild night to say the least.

I don't want anything bad to happen, obviously, but a little return on my investment would have been nice. Hell, even TS Allison back in 2001 dumped 10 inches of rain on us in a few hours. We didn't even get that, let alone stiff winds and/or thunder storms.
Give me the choice between a boring rain storm and no house, I'll take the boring storm, of course, but I was just hoping for the happy medium.

Last I heard, they said Ivan was on the same path that Hugo was back in '89, so I hope that isn't true.
I'm a little annoyed by these things, but luckily they haven't hit the SC coast too badly, but 3 TS/hurricanes in 4 weeks gets old fast... although it looks like it will be 4 in 5.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? I'm almost surprised Frances didn't just hang out in the Atlantic and wait for Ivan to catch up.

The latest paths for Ivan that I've seen take it quite a bit south of Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico. Of course, the path could change in the next few days as it isn't supposed to arrive for about 5 days.
Edited to add: This path scares me as I'm slightly concerned that New Orleans is going to go almost completely underwater if a big hurricane hits, particularly my place which is along the Mississippi River.

The main thing I'm worried about with Ivan is the timing. I'm flying to Miami on Thursday, then from Miami to Anchorage on Friday. I think those flights will be OK, but I'm worried about being 4000 miles away if the storm comes anywhere near Tallahassee. If it treks through GA like Frances is, I may have a difficult time even getting back here.

Over on the Florida/Alabama state line we didn't get a drop of rain. Barely enough wind to knock a few potted plants on my back porch over but that was about it. Ironically it was the best day weather-wise since Charlie near-missed us. Ivan has me worried though. It looks to be headed right for the Gulf of Mexico where it will be guaranteed to get stronger and more unpredictable.
