View Full Version : New Market Idea

Hey everyone, I have a new market idea for the Hattrick world. I don't know if anyone has ever suggested it, and I have not fully thought it through, but how about a finance market.

When you want to sell a player, you can choose between the finance market, and the auction market that is currently available. On the finance market, you can put a guy up for the same price as you would on the auction market, and it operates the same way. After three days, the highest bidder wins, and a set weekly price begins to go toward that player from the buyer, with interest running. Let's say you are selling an outstanding defender for 2 mil. He goes for 2.1 on the finance market, and then the juice starts running. He gets paid off in a season, and instead of getting 2.1 mil, you end up getting 2.7+ million total, spread out.

One of the biggest problems I see right off the bat is why would you want to put someone on the finance market. Well, if your player is high value, then the % financing has to be enough to get a decent return for the player. Lots of teams will still use the regular auction market, but if you don't necessarily need the money immediately, it could be worth it.

2nd, who would buy a guy off this market? That seems pretty easy to me. I can think of plenty of times when I almost had the money to go for a guy, only to fall 100k short. Perhaps you can make a substantial down payment when you win the bid. If a large down payment were placed, it would lower the total price the sellor gets, but it would probably still be higher than the auction market, and the buyer gets the player he needs, maybe a few weeks earlier than he may have before.

More risks: Possible defaults. It seems to me that there would be some teams that would rack up a large debt financing players and then quit. I think there would have to be some system in place for that. The HT people determine how much money you get in that case.

Anyway, this is just a start. As you can all see, I have thought of some of the negatives, but I know I haven't covered many angles yet. I'd like to hear any thoughts, and if someone else has come up with something like this, sorry to waste your time.
Just a few random things I've been thinking about watching my FOFC cup match :D

personally, i wouldnt want this feature, but i'll still discuss it since you seem pretty hyped about it :) i mean its not a horrible idea, it just doesnt do it for me.

personally, it sounds too complicated to implement and for newbies to understand quickly. plus, just like in real life, there will be a lot more people with money problems because of buying too much too quick.

with your "defaulting" risk, i would think people would just get to keep the money paid to them so far and their player back. players currently financed could not be sold or fired.
and here is my biggest thing... players definately cant be resold until they are paid off, because that just opens itself up to a whole new form a daytrading.

another big problem i dont like is the long term affect on the ht econ. its just another way to put a bigger gap between the HT rich and the HT poor. a large majority of the people that would buy like are are GMs with lower incomes. and i would think most players that are bought are going to be sold by "higher" level teams. and this just gives them a whole new way to make more money to get a bigger edge on the "lower" level teams.

the thing about the whole idea that i do like is it keeps the interest money in the GM's hands instead of loosing it back to the engine. but if you look at it that way, their is already a finance system built in with the econs and allowing you to go 500k in debt. people in debt pay interest, the people with money gain interest. the money gets circulated "through" the engine instead of directly between the GM's.

I agree in that I don't think I would use it much, but I thought it'd be fun to throw the idea out there. Apparently no one else cares for it either :D

As for the rich poor gap though, it seems to me that the poor could become wealthier, faster by becoming more competative quickly, gaining many supporters, and even promoting quicker. I do see what you are saying about the top people staying up, but to become competitive faster is very appealing to me.

Thanks for the comment.

One aspect of that system that could really aid starting players is the ability to purchase a trainee at a higher level than they would normally be able to afford. If they're making more per week from training than their finance charges, they'd be able to be competitive a good deal more quickly.

this is an interested idea, but it sounds almost like buying stocks on margin. but with no real collateral to back it up it could be a problem. last time this happened on a large scale in real life it lead to the great depression ;)
