What is everyones take on this game?
I'm thinking Rix and FSU will actually do well this year and not need a late game field goal, which they miss.

Nah! It's gonna come down to another 29-34 yard FG late in the 4th quarter that will seal the game or break the hearts and dreams of millions for another year.

Bah, for a second I thought this was about Fresno State. :D
Well if you ask me.... Deep down inside I know Miami is going to win this game. I wish I could root for Florida State but I can't so tonight either outcome will have me happy and sad at the same time. The Seminole in me says 14-10 The Cane 23-21( Bounce off the goal post or too short) Reality 21-16 Canes win on a special team play either blocked punt, or return.

Hate them both, so if there were some way they could both lose that'd be awesome.
Short of that, I like Chris Rix to figure out a way to lose this one: 23-21.

HUGE homefield edge to the 'Canes, but FSU across the board has much more game experience. If they play this game in Oct/Nov, I think it's the 'Canes all the way. But with it being the first game that inexperience is going to hurt Miami. My head says FSU by 5, but my gut says never take FSU against the 'Canes, so in the end I take Miami by 2.
Rooting for FSU, but I figure Miami will win. Criminoles and Cocaines, what a game!

These QB's suck.
You would think a top 10 program could recruit a little better for such an important position.
kingfc22, I was going to say the same thing.

But the thing is, they do have better QBs, they're just young. But it's not like they could possibly make any worse decisions.

Those refs are horrible. They basically knowingly gave Miami a fourth timeout. They could have called a motion penalty before the snap, because Winston was moving towards the ref signaling the timeout, he was moving before the inadvertent whistle.
Or they broke the huddle w/o him being in it.

He's got the business cards, so I assume he has to have something.
Ok as a Seminole fan I am thru with Chris Rix. This kid should not be the QB for Florida State he is a athlete playing QB. Jeff Bowden sucks ass because I sat in the stands calling, most of his plays to the point Cane fans started say I should work for UM. The offensive line is pure trash overrated and soft. The running backs are talented but did get any holes from that pure trash Oline. The defense is for real I know Miami offense didn't look good tonight but there is a reason why Florida State's defense is legit.
Now as someone who was cheering for his family I am very happy for Glenn he made a nice sack which made our section cheer for a long time. Miami's defense is good but I don't if it was Rix or if it was them but they are good none the less. Now Frank Gore looks like a damn stud he looks faster and stronger. Plain and simple Miami owns Florida State unless Miami is on probation Florida State will not win many games. It is a mindstate with those guys I can't begin to tell you about that swagger they have... I don't like Rolle on a personal level but man did he ball he is a first round choice in April and so is Byrant McFadden. Time to go read warchant which I am sure is in meltdown mode.

Though Rix and Berlin were horrid! Like someone else said, you'd think these programs could find better QBs! Hell, if UF can find decent QBs, FSU and Miami should be able to. Or maybe UF is willing to play its freshmen over the sucky upperclassmen.

Miami will probably stay there, but I'd have to say that right now neither of these teams deserve to be in the top ten.As the season goes on, I don't think you'll have to worry about that. Neither will get through the ACC schedule without a couple of losses if their quarterback play remains at that level. At the other positions, they're likely the two most talented teams in the conference, but the ACC is too good of a league to win consistantly without an adequate performance from your quarterback.

Berlin didn't look as bad in the 2nd half. He was actually playing with some confidence, which has hasn't shown in himself since arrived at Miami. Berlin was also facing one of deepest and most talented secondaries in the country.
After watching Berlin play last season, I would take last nights performance over any game he played last year. He showed a lot of improvements. Last season he didn't even look downfield. He just stared at the pass-rush and when he didn't do that he was locked onto Winslow. In the 2nd half last night he was actually going through his progressions and looking downfield at times.
Ryan Moore was the biggest disappointment. He's a kid with Andre Johnson-type talent and he looked lost on the field most of last night.
Miami thanks Notre Dame for the Olsen kid.
Frank Gore looked great last night, as many have said. He doesn't have the speed he had before the knee injuries, but that kid has the best vision I've ever seen a running back have.

I think the best analogy for this game is that of a huge car accident. It was one of the ugliest things I have ever seen, but I couldn't get myself to look away. I had to stick around until the end because you knew something unbelievable would happen.
And it did. Chris Rix proved why he is the worst player in the history of organized football (NFL, college, Arena, CFL, hell even Pop Warner).
bronconick
09-11-2004, 09:09 AM
Well, that sucked.
I'm not even sure why I watched that game after Miami started to drive in the 4th quarter. You can see it coming, and yet I couldn't turn away. That's three consecutive games where the defense has won the game for Florida State, and the offense (Chris Rix in particular) has pissed it away.
The season is essentially over right now for FSU. Which means it's time for a non-senior QB to get reps. Wyatt Sexton, or even Xavier Lee should be lining up against UAB. That won't happen, because Bobby's loyal to a fault to his upperclassmen (why Piquion and Nicholson start over Sims, for instance)
On another note, maybe Rix can play guard. He had a better blocking night then any of the O-lineman.

The back-up Sexton from what I read from practice reports is very slow in the pocket. I know alot of people hype X.Lee up but I think Drew Weatherford will be the main guy simply because he is ahead as far as learning the playbook goods and has taken snaps from the center in highschool will X.Lee was in a shotgun offense.
bronconick - AJ Nicholson should start he is a play maker but as far as Piquon goes I dont know because Ernie is a stud but is new to the SLB position.
I am not even mad anymore I feel pity for the defense because they played their hearts out and Bobby Bowden just fucked them over at the end.

Noop, how did Rix look in the spring and fall? Did it look/seem like he had improved at the time?
If you believed what you read from those blind homers. I remember his excuse for spring was he doesnt have a healthy line so he got a free pass. In the fall he was supposely lighting it up according to the warchant staff but others have said he looked the same. 9-2 or 10-1 seems right by me because that defense should keep us in every game. And the offense doesnt see another defense as good as Miami.

I agree. I think Rix finds a way to fuck up one other game and they go 9-2.
This spring I heard the same shit about Rix that I've heard every year. How much he's matured. How he's put everything behind him. He's accepting his mistakes. Blah, Blah, Blah. He's a shitbag.

Well let me spill a little rumor that is starting to gain some legs Chris Rix is not the starter and Wyatt Sexton will start against UAB. This is looking more and more tru with Wyatt as QB 9-2 is about the best we can hope but then again he is a smart QB so maybe 10-1 with alot of luck.

btw, I don't know if it was mentioned elsewhere, but those Miami uniforms are FUGLY - especially that horizontal stripe on the back
definitely. I couldn't even figure out what the deal with that stripe was, but it was ugly. I like their dark green jerseys better.

Sexton definitely needs to start. I'd view a 9-3 season with a QB learning and ready to go next season right now. I'd also consider running Weatherford out there (since he's ahead of Lee) as the #2 when playing Duke, UNC and the like. Time to start looking to the future. Hell, let's put Rix as a wideout now and then like Notre Dame does with Holiday now. He's got the heart, just not the brains.
I wonder, if Jared Jones hadn't been such a dumbass, and Rix had gotten two seasons on the bench to learn the system like most FSU quarterbacks have had, if that would have changed anything.

Dumbasses are Dumbasses no matter how long they have to wait.
bronconick - Are you a Seminole fan? You know an awful lot about the team. You a member on warchant?
Anyway looks like Bobby Bowden knows how to spin this BS crap from Rix blaming it on everyone one else but Chris Rix. I am offically done with Bobby Bowden should he decide to stick with Chris I want him to fire his son and the Oline coach.

Noop, who's calling the plays down there? His son?
The FSU play calling has gone into the shitter in recent seasons. FSU has become one of the more conservative offenses out of the top 10 teams right now.

Yep. Jeff Bowden. He and Chris Rix have done in 2 years what no team could do for 14 years and that was end the dynasty. Florida State really needs some new blood on the offensive side of the ball.

Yeah. Although I'm considering going out in the woods away from the media during the next Miami game, to save my sanity.
I lurk over there a bit, but being a couple thousand miles out of the loop, don't post much. Especially when everyone and their brother either goes nuts saying everyone sucks, or "You suck for questioning the coaches."
Heggins needed to be fired in about 1997 or 1998. With the exception of the 2002 Miami game, I can't think of a game where the O-line has been impressive.
I still hold out a sliver of hope on Jeff Bowden, simply because I don't know if he's just naturally bad at play calling, or not having any confidence in Rix is tying his hands. I'm leaning toward the former for such idiocy as trying to run 2 or 3 reverses against the Miami Hurricanes. There's a reason there *were* nepotism rules.
Bobby has mentioned a little about possibly making a change, and I guess Leon Washington pretty much called Rix out on his play last night, so who knows. I hope to see Sexton get at least half the snaps against UAB. When you can't depend on a 5th year senior not to throw off his backfoot into double coverage across the field and drop a snap in OT, it's time to let him go.

Rix is terrible. You would think that by this time he would at least be competent, obviously not though
I swear Rix came to Florida State with the sole purpose of bringing down the empire.

I'm about a day late, but what else is new?
On the Crudup thing, he had a chance to hop over Berlin on the depth chart last year when he got a chance to start against either Temple or Rutgers (I can't remember exactly, I'd have to look at the tape). He didn't "wow" anyone, the offense struggled, so the coach staff decided to stick with the guy with the strong arm. Crudup is supposedly the backup, but Kyle Wright is being hailed as the "second coming", so if UM loses a game this year, Wright will probably get a start or two. As it has been said before, Berlin was actually not too bad tonight, and UM fans were definitely spoiled by having Dorsey for three years.
On the FSU side, Rix will come out and have his yearly great game against Maryland, and the Terps will be left wondering if they'll ever be able to beat FSU. I feel bad for Friedgen, because that's the lone mental hurdle the program has that keeps them for being a strong contender. He might not have the best talent, but Friedgen is one of the best prepared coaches in the country.

A bit late but oh well. I am happy with the win but Brock Berlin HAS to figure out a way to be productive within the confines of the base offense. It's like he can't be successful without some sort of "Fun n Gun" type of offense. I mean with Gore and Moss (despite his performance on Friday) running the football, you would think he could have had some successful with the playaction pass. He seems one of those QBs who does NOT play well within a balanced attack. Also I know it was his first game as offensive coordinator, but Dan Werner was liitle too conservative in his play calling for my taste in the first three quarters. On the positive side, the defense is scary good this year.

Ok as a Seminole fan I am thru with Chris Rix. This kid should not be the QB for Florida State he is a athlete playing QB.
Well, it's about time. :)
The one positive I got out of this game was that I was on a plane for the entire thing and didn't see even one dropped snap.
