Just finished my first season w/ the LA Kings...had a really bad year w/ injuries, but once Allison came back, the team played really well. Cechmanek was abysmal, so I looked to Buffalo to pick up one of Biron, Miller, or Noronen, as I really like all 3 (Miller and Noronen were my top choices). I ended up getting Noronen for a 2nd round pick, and was ecstatic (cheap for a starter)...I couldn't unload Cechmanek on anyone, so I waived him, and Carolina picked him up (sweeeet).

Anyways, Noronen was even worse than Cechmanek, and time after time Milan Hnilicka outplayed him (and had a GREAT year). So going into 04-05, Hnilicka is the starter, unless I can make a move.

I had the #4 pick, and was a bit worried that I wouldn't get one of Ovechkin, Malkin, or Olesz. Here's how the players were ranked:

1. Ovechkin
2. Wolski
3. Olesz
4. Malkin

I really preferred Ovechkin and Olesz, and was in no way going to take Wolski (not into his intangibles AT ALL). So Columbus took Wolski with the first pick, and I knew I was good...I ended up w/ Olesz, and I think he might be able to make the team as the #2 or #3 Center.

Ok. The point is the drafting is really fun...anyone have any stories to share?

I love the drafting. I spend a lot of time during the season comparing stats, analyzing reports, etc. I spend way too much time importing everything into Excel so that I can create my own draft lists using my own criteria and trying to minimize the guesswork. Much more can be read in my dynasty report...

Everytime you two talk about the game, I get one step closer to purchasing it. Are you sure you don't work for Marc? ;) The only thing holding me back is that I'm still not 100% sure I'll be able to start with the upcoming season as the first season, as I really do not want to redo the 03-04 season. I've been told that there's a roster pack on a fan site, which is fine, but I don't want someone else's ratings included in the pack. Do you guys think I'll be able to do this?

Are you sure you don't work for Marc? ;) The only thing holding me back is that I'm still not 100% sure I'll be able to start with the upcoming season as the first season, as I really do not want to redo the 03-04 season. I've been told that there's a roster pack on a fan site, which is fine, but I don't want someone else's ratings included in the pack. Do you guys think I'll be able to do this?

I wouldn't know how, if it were possible. I had some questions about this, but I got over it once I started playing.

No, you can't. You might be able to get a roster pack that is current, but there is no way to change the starting date.

See that's what bothers me. Why bother to get a roster update with Ovechkin and Malkin on the correct teams from the draft when the following year's draft will have Sidney Crosby and everything will be pushed up a year?

I played one year as the Kings, with fake rosters, and finished with the second worst record. The rookie I drafted was good enough to start and he ended up missing the first month and a half and still won the scoring title for Rookies as well as end up as an all star.

Yeah...to me it's only minor though...all the good overshadows it, IMO.

As far as the game, last season I had 19 y/o rookie Dustin Brown on a line w/ Allison and Palffy, and he finished with 46 points in 70-some games. Pretty sweet. We'll see how it goes this coming season w/ Olesz.

Well, you get someone else's ratings when you play the pay version, also, so don't let that stop you!

They changed it? I know you could with the free version.

You cannot change the starting date in the free version either, as far as I have seen. You can download a saved game that is setup for the start of the 2003-04 season, but you cannot start a brand new game for that.

How good is it after the last patch? i'm a fan of CM series and also of the old EHM but when i tried the new EHM it was like CM3 with a hockey skin, am i wrong? how can it compare with the old EHM? can you fast sim games? on the CM series you can't, you need to watch them all. I'm avid for a new sim, and as i don't know if Jim will release a new fof or tcy, i'm thinking on purchasing EHM or OOTP6.

It is like CM3, with hockey, which is what I would have expected. You don't have to watch all the games. You should download the demo and give it a trial run.
