I was just wondering whether anyone here tapes sporting events. I certainly do. Events include : DAYTONA 500 , Super Bowl , and basically all ''BIG GAMES.''

CS: Do you ever actually go back and watch any of those events? Especially the Daytona 500?

I have compete tapes of each of the Leafs' Game Seven playoff games of the past decade, including pre- and post-game shows. I also have live highlights from each playoff game since 1993, because I've developed a nervous habit of fiddling with a remote control during games and hitting record whenever something happens.

And yes, I do re-watch them sometimes.

And yes, my wife does regret accepting my proposal.

Whenever there's a Mrs. Leafs mention, I'm there.

As for the original question, I can't tape sporting events. I just don't really have any reason to.

When you live in Australia you miss a lot of sleep if you don't :)

Almost once a year I break out an old NFL game. Super Bowl XXV is my favorite. I was kind of a Giants fan at the time, and I still think that was one of the best SB's ever played.

I picked up a random game on DVD recently (St. Louis @ Tampa in 2000), as i recall it being one of the absolute best regular games I've ever seen. After re-watching it, I still hold that opinion. Warrick Dunn's insane 4th down lateral to Shaun King while being spun around by 2 Rams defenders (King then runs for 20+ yards) ranks in the top 5 most amazing plays I've ever seen. It was week 16 and either team clinched a playoff spot with a win. It was unreal, there was an absolute playoff-level urgency from start to finish, unbelivable games by Faulk and Dunn, and just the most dramatic lead changes down the final stretch.

I live watching old sports broadcasts. Sure, you see the highlights all the time, but it's not the same to see it out of context. That's why I watch the old tapes from time to time, and why I love concepts like ESPN classic.

As an example, everyone has seen Joe Carter's famous World Series winning home run a million times. But the highlight clip leaves out the best parts. Like the way that John Olerud (who'd hit .363 that year) had been pulled from the game, leaving Alfredo Griffin on deck when Carter hit his shot. Or the way that Carter took a terrible swing at a slider on the pitch before, resulting in the last words the broadcasters utter before the home run being "He looks awful, doesn't he?". I love that sort of stuff.

That tape is pretty old. How's the quality holding up?

It's almost like watching hit that was laid on Sami Kappinen in game 6 of the semi finals of the east this year...well you know what happened right after that.

I tape sporting events. I have a ton of the Wings play-off games from the 97, 98, and 02 Cup runs. I've watched a couple of the past few years. Though the game I've watched the most: March 27, 1997, Wings vs. Avalanche. Wow. Easily one of the best regular season hockey games of all time. Very, very physical, great skill and speed throuhgout, and a 6-5 win for the Wings in OT curteosy of one Darren McCarty. A thing of beauty.

I am also getting all the Lions games this year on DVD because I can't watch them otherwise. Yes, I am that desperate for crappy NFL football.

I will Tivo football games and then start watching them when I get home, or 30 or so minutes after kickoff (then you can fast forward through halftime and by the end of the game you finish about the same time the game would have anyways)..

But I do not save them for prosperity.,..

I have every Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament game on tape since 1987, and I still watch them a lot.

A friend of my brother's has every nationally televised football game since 1977 on tape. I was looking through them last weekend, and found the game he taped on Dec. 29th, 1979, the day after I was born. The Eagles and the Bucs in the NFC playoffs.

I Tivo them, but it's just to skip commercials. Once I know the outcome, I can't watch them again.

I have a tape of Bourque winning the Cup (oh, and the rest of the Avs too!). That's my favorite sporting moment of all time, and even that I haven't watched again.

I need to tape them as i live in Spain, else i would go to bed at 5am every Sunday, when i wake up on Mondays at 8 am. I'm also thinking on purchasing NFL past seasons games, like all superbowls etc, but all what i find are DVD for USA region and NTSC format. Can i at least watch them on my pc and/or convert to PAL?

Nope. Watching a taped game just ain't the same as watching it live...

I probably would...I just don't care enough to do it. The chances of me watching them again are slim (in that for big games, I'm usually disappointed, and the great games happen without warning (IND comeback against TB last year, for one)).

The only real exception is boxing. I'll used to tape them (but now you can find them to download easily). I've watched a lot of fights many times over.
