1) Pass-defense. What's the secret? I've recruited players totally dedicated to stopping the pass: 4 pass rushing linemen and 3 coverage linebackers, 3 great corners and the 4th is ok, and 2 pretty good safeties. My two best corners are both pro-bowlers.
I run nickle and dimebacks liberally, and have tried every possibility I can think of - blitz, drop back, man, zone, let the CPU control, manual control, close my eyes/pray. I give up absurb amounts of passing yardage, especially on long throws and even more especially late in the game when they get desperate and start trying heroics. I am 1st in the NFL on run defense (with about 50% of #2) and 32nd on pass defense... also 32nd on total defense, do the math. :(
I'm no football expert but I really don't think my playcalling is THAT bad... is there something I'm missing? Could someone give a remedial lesson on the advantages of man vs zone coverage? And any other obviousness which I may have missed?
Also, how does one block kicks? My edge rushers always seem to be 2 steps too slow (seriously considering grabbing a 99/99 guy just to see if it makes any difference) and I can never blow through blockers fast enough to get in from the middle. Is there a specific type of player who is good at that or should I just accept that I'll never block one?
Finally, is 2k5 good? I never got 2k4 because I heard that offense got overpowered and that's already my major gripe (I'm a defensive purist at heart)... haven't heard much about 2k5, although one person did say the defensive hot-routes/playmaker controls made it a lot more balanced. Which is awesome, but the problem is it sounds like the playmaker/hot routes require a gamepad--I have one which works, but for some reason you can't assign offense and defense to different controls... which is ok on the keyboard (PC), but really screws me up on a pad so I don't use it. Is it possible to use different set-ups in 2k5 or do they still use the "same buttons with different functions" deal for offense/defense? And is there anything else improved in 2k5 or basically just graphics/rosters?
