Well that damn Interactive NC State Groupthink (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/showthread.php?t=30466) has inspired me to dust off TCY...install version 1.3...and start a new dynasty of my own. I ran more of a Pro Offense with my last dynasty and this time I'm going back to my option roots and stay true to Air Force and run their Flexbone offense. My favorite offense to watch these days is the Power Spread that teams like West Virginia and Utah run...but unfortunately there is no Shot Gun formation in TCY so I really wouldn't know which formation would emulate it the best. So it's back to the Flex.

Defensively...I want to try and run a bend but don't break defense. So I will be going after players who excel in zone defense...cover 2...not a lot of blitzing and just try to keep everything in front of me.

My goal in this dynasty is to win the National Championship of course. Academics are a big priority with me though...as I do look for the smarter players so I can devote more time to player development.

Feedback is always welcome.

Coaching Staff
Syndicate Coordinator: Daryl Scott (62) - Daryl's excellent in Academic Eligibility and not much else. He'll definitely do for this year.

Offensive Coordinator: Bryant Westbrook (63) - Terrific with Play Calling...Rehabilitation and O-Lineman development. Not the greatest with Player Development altogether. We might be looking elsewhere after this season.

Defensive Coordinator: Lenny Ramirez (51) - Excellent Play Caller and with D-Lineman. Terrific with Secondary development as well. Lenny might be an actual keeper after this season.

Team Scout: Luke Harkness (34) - Luke is another quality staff member. He's Excellent with the RB's and O-Lineman...which is key. He's also Very Good with QB's and LB's. I'm only gonna keep tabs on the local scout in my updates.

Zawilinski - You really can't get a better name than our starting QB. Not an ideal Flexbone QB...but the best we have.
Franklin - Will be the focal point of our offense. Great breakaway speed...which is what we're looking for in this O.
Berosik - Our short yardage and 3rd down back guy. Not the greatest talent.
Scott - We're gonna depend heavily on our FB. Scott is decent but we need better.
Burnett - Has the greatest future of anyone on offense.
Steele - Steele is our big play threat on offense. He's definitely needed to stetch the field vertically.

Sutton - Just the type of run blocker we need in the middle.
Godfrey - The best player on the team. The bulk of the carries will be run behind him.
Hindman - Another good run blocker.
Elliott - Elliott is our best tackle but will mainly be responsible for protecting the QB on pass plays.
Bernstein - Bernstein will team up with Godfrey on the right side to hopefully open up some holes.

Mayes - We're definitely weak up the middle and that may cost us in Year 1.
Gibson - Read above.
Cromwell - Umm...read above again.
Hambrick - Good solid SOLB. Not a lot of upside though as a Sophmore.
Aufedenkampe - Young player with a lot of upside. Gets the starting nod because of his pass rushing skills.

Gerhardt - Gets the nod over two better players because of his zone defense skills.

If you can decipher my recruiting notes than more power to you. I didn't chronicle my recruiting travels in my Duke dynasty but in this dynasty I thought the least I could do is just copy what I have on my spreadsheet each week. Note that Tackle Rico Moore is the #1 player in the nation and he has a teammate on the team already. This could be HUGE for us in Year 1.

It's unreal that Rico Moore is visiting already. He's got OU and FSU also in his sights already...but he's not choosing to visit them yet. Eat it! Things look decent so far. We had to ditch Poston in week 2 since Cal was going after him and had us beat in Academics and Prestige. Dale Mitchel takes his place on our list.

Preview - I was a little surprised to see us as a 2-point favorite heading into game one. But hey...I'll take it. Cal is a little stronger team overall...but maybe we got a little bit of a shot here. Again our focus on offense is to run the Flexbone. We won't be option-heavy in year one since Moe Zawilinski isn't the fleetest of foot. Our main focus on offense will be RB Bo Franklin and we'll also rely on WR Casey Steele as a viable deep threat. Cal's offense features the Wing-T...which is a run heavy offense but they will pass the ball a lot as well. Lucky for us...their RB's don't look too menacing...but they do have some decent threats at WR in Norbert Douglas and at TE in Skip Whiteside. For us defensively...hopefully our bend but don't break philosophy will keep us in the game against this little bit better opponent.

Post-Game - Well...I had no idea that we would play this well...but we really took it to the Bears. The biggest surprise of the game...besides the overall defensive play...was WB Oliver Berosik. Just thought to be a nice compliment to RB Bo Franklin...he was the main option against Cal as he racked up 196 yards of total offense to go with all three offensive touchdowns that we put on the board. Franklin was really held in check other than breaking out a 26 yard run in the 4th quarter. It was great to see our running game wear down the Bear D in the 2nd half and racking up 193 yards on the ground in the process. Defensively...SS Alfred Sualua's great game was somewhat overshadowed by Berosik's. But he ended up with 8 tackles and an interception. Back-up FS Frankie Herring added a fumble recovery for a TD. As far as scoring went...we went up 17-0 before Cal scored their first TD to make it 17-7. Then we both traded TD's to wrap up the 1st half. Then we went on to shutout the Bears in half #2. Overall I'm very happy with our opening game.

Next up - at Baylor

Great performance by Berosik! I wonder if he'll continue to be good, taking advantage of the defensive attention given to your RB. What were your run stats set at for that game?

Peregrine - I'll be able to post those either late tonight or for sure on Saturday. Yeah I was totally surprised with my WB's performance. Probably just a fluke considering he's just a 33 overall rated RB.

Thanks for reading.

Last meeting: First Meeting
Career Record against opponent: 0-0

Key Injuries - None

Preview - We were definitely please with last week's win over Cal...but now we have our first road game of the year vs Baylor. Baylor likes to put the ball in the air in their Single-Back offense...but they may not have the QB to do that effectively. QB Lionel Fazzini threw for 326 yards in their opening game win vs UAB...but also threw 5 picks as well. So like Cal last week...it looks like this team does not have their best players in key positions. Their best player on O is RB Chuck Rathbone...who is their highest rated skill position player. He ran the ball 18 times last week for 79 yards. The story for us last week was WB Oliver Berosik. Berosik averaged 9.15 yards per carry while racking up 196 yards of total offense and 3 TD's. I'm not sure if that was a fluke or not...but if we can get performances out of our WB then we're in a pretty good spot. We suffered no injuries at all last week so we're feeling pretty good heading into this matchup.

Post-Game - It took 21 points from our defense and special teams but we'll take it in what turned out to be a flat-out shootout against Baylor. We started out great. Moe Zawilinski hit DJ Burnett on our first play from scrimmage with a 49 yard TD pass. Then after a blocked punt Zawilinski found Burnett for another 10 yard TD pass on our 3rd play from scrimmage to make it 14-0. Then after a couple of possessions our FS Aaron Larry picked off a Lionel Fazzini pass and took it back for a 59 yard interception return for a TD to make it 21-0. But that finally woke Baylor up...Chuck Rathbone to the ensuing kickoff back for a 93 yard TD return. After that...Baylor found the end zone three more times in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-21 halftime lead. In the 2nd half...we finally slowed down Baylor and outscored them 28-14 to hold on for a 7 point win. That 28 points included a 81 yard interception return for a TD by Stephen Ainsworth and a 66 yard punt return for a TD by Vernon Gerhardt. Zawilinski was again impressive from the QB spot going 8-11 for 214 yards and 3 TD's with no ints. All three TD passes went to DJ Burnett who took all 3 catches into the end zone. Bo Franklin was again held in check as he gained just 25 yards on 14 carries...but he did score a TD. And SS Alfred Sualua led the team in tackles with 7. We may have lost DE Courtney Matas with a serious injury. Update in Week 4.

Little movement here in Week 4. G Sam Reynolds from here in Colorado Springs decided to pay a visit to the ol' campus. We're still feeling confident about Rico Moore even though he is visiting the OU campus this week.

Preview - For the 3rd week in a row we face an opponent that is very comparable to us in overall talent. But it's hard to gauge exactly how good UNLV is when they've had to face Tennessee and Wisconsin on the road in their first two games. So their stats are a little skewed because of this and thus it's hard to get a read. But we do know that they like to throw the ball out of their Trips Formation and against a similiar team last week...in Baylor...it may certainly give us trouble. We had our first big injury blows of the year happen in last week's game. We lost DE Courtney Gatas...our best pass rusher...for the season to a knee injury and then we lost WOLB Edwin Aufedenkampe for the next 5 weeks or so with a hyperextended elbow. So our already porous defense just got a little more porous. I've been very pleased with the play of our QB Moe Zawalinski...so far on the year he is 21-33 for 389 yards with 5 TD's and only 1 int. That's exactly what we need to open things up for the Flexbone option game.

Post-Game - We had another barnburner for the 2nd week in a row. This time it took us OT to beat the Rebels by the score of 30-24. We really controlled the majority of the first half but only had 7 points to show for it. We took the opening drive and shoved it down their throats with ease...but then really never reclaimed that running game dominance the rest of the game. But the game came down to a last minute drive in the 4th. Down 21-24 we put together a drive that got the ball to the Rebel 22 yard line for our kicker Aaron Hansen. Hansen had been 0-2 in FG's during the game but somehow sucked it up and kicked a 39 yarder to send it in to OT. In OT...UNLV self-destructed on their drive as they ended up with a 4th and 25 from the 40 and came away with no points. Then they committed a defensive holding penalty to give us the ball on the 15 yard line and on the 2nd play from scrimmage Oliver Berosik took it in from 15 yards out for our 3rd win of the season. WR DJ Burnett took home MVP honors for the 2nd week in a row. He didn't score but caught 6 passes for 136 yards. And Vernon Gerhardt had his 2nd return for a TD in as many weeks. This time it was a 90 yard kickoff return in the 3rd quarter.

Again not much movement this week...but we're still early. We had one more recruit visit...CB Jeremy Price...another Colorado product. The race for Rico Moore has heated up. Now he has visited Michigan...Nebraska and Oklahoma. Our chances are dwindling a bit...but we were still the first school that he visited...so we'll see.

Preview - Well we had our first big blow of the season...non-injury related...as our top CB...Stephen Ainsworth...committed a violation of team rules and we had no choice to suspend him. Now it's been a while since I've played TCY and had a player suspended...but I believe this is for the rest of the year. Hopefully I'm wrong because this is an important player to lose. So with the loss of Ainsworth we have to make a change in the way we cover the opposing teams receivers. Without his strong zone presence in the game we have to switch over to more of a man to man defense. It will be interesting to see how much this effects us.
Looking at Utah...this looks to be our toughest test of the year. While we're a combined 6-0...the rest of the conference is 0-16. Ouch. Utah also likes to run the Flexbone and they seem to have a little bit more talent than Cal did. Better talent combined with the loss of one of our best players on defense and I don't like how this one is shaping up. We'll also still be w/o the services of Gatas and Aufedenkampe. On offense for us this year...so far we're 32nd in scoring (36.6) and 27th in rushing yards (506) through the first three games.

Post-Game - Man...I don't know what happened here...but we just flat out sucked it up. It may have been the 6 sacks that we gave up. It may have been the 4 turnovers that we had. It may have been that we finally got beat by a better team. Whatever it was...it wasn't enjoyable to watch. We really were in this game in the first half and then gave up a crushing 63 yard TD pass with just :57 left before halftime. Then as were trying to put up our first score of the game in the 3rd quarter we gave up an 89 yard interception return. The consolation to all this is that the rest of our schedule only gets easier.

Next up - Navy at home.

Not much change going into Week 6 on the recruiting trails. No one visited this week...which is a little depressing but then again we've only loss RB Luke Logan to Indiana. We've already been looking at Cucina from NY though...in his place. One major shake-up is that we've stopped going after that Logan kid at QB as Vandy has stepped into that picture and has us beat in both Acadamics and Distance. So we're making a major play for Edward Stanton...an option QB out of Virginia. He's listed as the 17th best QB...but he's only been offered 2 scholarships so far and we have them beat in the Academics category. So we're hoping this could be a big breakthrough for us.

Preview - Well last week was quite a jolt to our system as Utah took us apart. This week...however we're really looking at getting back into the saddle with a home game vs Navy. Navy...like in real life...are not all that talented and their offense will not make anyone run and hide. But...we're not world-beaters either in year one...so we just gotta play solid football. We continue to be relatively injury-free so far this year. Our biggest loss has been the suspension of our top CB Stephen Ainsworth. We're already 107th in the nation in pass defense...so a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way out has just become a little harder. It looks like Audenkampe will be out at least one more week as well with

his elbow injury.

Post-Game - Well this one was truely embarrassing. We outgained them 437-277...had the ball for almost twice as long...only had one turnover...and lost just to a bad team. I guess committing 11 penalties to their 1 didn't help any. But man...this one sucked. Bo Franklin finally had a good game...which he hasn't done yet this year...and yet we still couldn't stick the ball in the end zone. Just unreal. And one of their offensive linemen received MVP honors...a true first in all my years of TCY'in it. Not sure what else I can say on this one...so I'll just advance to week 7.

Not a whole lot of attention needed in the recruiting wars this week. But we finally did land our first recruit. Dave Sousa...a FS...from right here in Colorado signed with us. Dave is just the 91st rated Safety...but was a nice little score for us. Hopefully this will open up the flood gates for us.

New Mexico (0-5) at Air Force (3-2) (-18) No TV

Last meeting: First Meeting
Career Record against opponent: 0-0

Key Injuries
DE Courtney Gatas - Reconstructive Knee Surgery - Out Season
WR Casey Steele - Sprained Neck - Probable 3 weeks
T Winfred Elliott - Bad Cold - Probable 1 week
OLB Edwin Aufedenkampe - Hyperextended Elbow - Probable 1 week

Preview - Last week we faced a bad team in Navy and came away with a big L. This week we may face an even worse team in New Mexico. If we can't beat this team then I may have to just resign from my job. New Mexico comes into this game 0-5 on the season and their QB Daryl Andersen has thrown for exactly 0 TD's on the year to go along with his 10 ints. Plus he's completing passes at a 43% clip. The Lobos run their offense out of the I-Formation and their starting RB...Chuck Kenner...is out for the rest of the season with broken ribs. Again I reiterate...if we don't win this game...I WILL RESIGN! On our side of things...we got nicked up a bit last week but overall everyone should be ready to play including WOLB Edwin Aufedenkampe. I definitely like the way our defense played last week but the offense...who can move the ball up and down the field without problems...needs to put it in the end zone.

Post-Game - Well we got the win and my job IS safe. But I really didn't feel good about this one either. Oh sure we put up 429 yards of total offense...we can move the ball up and down the field at will...just not all the way into the promised land. Oliver Berosik had to pick up the slack as we lost Bo Franklin to a knee injury. Berosik ran the ball 26 times for 93 years and added 43 more threw the air. Casey Steele had his best game of the year catching 10 passes for 144 yards. We once again doubled up our opponent in yardage but not on the scoreboard. We definitely have to tweak our offense during the bye week. Maybe that's just the thing that we need?

Next up - Bye week

We landed two more recruits this week. Two more local guys in G Sam Reynolds and P Ellis McConnell. Kind of like Sousa...not the greatest of players...but local guys that should contribute in a few years. We're still in the Rico Moore hunt and Edward Stanton is visiting now. We did lose RB Ellis Cucina...our 2nd RB recruit lost. So now we're going after Chester Zuccato from Maine. He's the 40th ranked RB in the nation and not receiving a lot of attention right now. Nor has he been offered a scholarship even though his GPA is something like 3.93.

Ok...now the recruits are starting to commit. We landed four more prospects this week bringing our running total to 7. This week we got commits from FB Vinny Borkowski from the great state of Nebraska...a run-blocking tackle from Utah in Kirk Dilbert...a local product from here in Colorado...CB Jeremy Price and a run stopping SS from Minnesota...Dale Mitchel. Nothing that sticks out as the more prestigious recuits are still making up their minds. We had to go after a new CB as we lost Roy Stokes to Indiana. Thanks buddy.

The game against 0-7 BYU to follow.

Wow, this is rare, I've only seen that happen once. I've also only seen a punter get MVP once.

This actually happened again in the next game as Ricky Godfrey took home MVP honors.

I wonder if a small adjustment was made by Jim as to how game MVP's are determined when 1.3 came out?
