I'm probably jinxing us, but Furman currently leads Pitt 23-13 at the half at Pittsburgh. FU 1 time!

Hey, I'm just happy we have a lead on a D-1a school. We almost beat Wyoming a few years ago and we hung tough with Clemson last year. Last D1a win was 28-3 against Chapel Hill like 7 years ago.
Thankfully we just got the benefit of a roughing the passer, or we would have had to punt. I think the team has to get a TD or at least a FG coming out of the half, b/c Pitt is going to come out hard now in the 2nd half.
I think we just got another late hit, out of bounds!

31-17 after 3, Pitt with the ball around the Furman 42 and driving well.
And yes, no one cares but me, but hey, not every week a 1-aa team has a good chance to beat a 1-a team. And Pitt isn't exactly as bad as Mississippi State.

It on the Charter Sports Station in Charleston, but its not nationwide... mainly just the SOuth East.
31-24, 11 minutes left. Obviously I'm biased, but the refs had an early whistle for a fumble, and Pitts getting away with holding.
I doubt we'll hold on, our D is about to pass out, and we're missing the top 3 defensive players. Their just too fast for our D. But its a nice run for now.

Easy Mac, my heart was racing as I read this thread. I didn't know the outcome so it was kind of cool with your emotional investment
oh well, we played hard. Pitt played well in the 4th quarter.
To quote Rasheed Wallace... both teams played hard.
I was at the game, and I was impressed with the Furman offense. Pitt has been a strong defensive team this season, I was shocked that Furman cut through our D so easily for most of the game. The Furman playcalling was top notch for most of the game, lots of misdirection that had the Panthers confused and out of position. As someone stated earlier in the thread, it did get a little stale late in the game, and Pitt was finally able to figure out where the ball was going and laid some pretty good hits on the final 2 Furman drives to put up 2 big stops. Furman's WR reverse pass for TD was a nice play, and it emptied out most of the stadium and, dissapointedly, most of the student section. I was truly shocked Pitt found the emotion to come back from 14 down and get the game to OT. I'll definitely check ESPN the rest of the year and see how the Paladins are faring. Good game.
On a side note, maybe the Big East should try to convince Furman to step up to 1a and join our conference. Furman is at least as good as Temple has been the past 5 years, and I'd put Furman on an even coin flip playing Rutgers every season :p

Interesting that you make this remark after Pitt barely escapes Furman in OT. Given that, what makes you think you can count on a win against Rutgers?
Rutgers actually lost to their I2a opponent, and Furman is ranked 13 spots higher than New Hampshire. But in all reality, this particular part of the argument is hard to support - Rutgers lost to a highly ranked I2a team, and Pitt trailed theirs by 17 and had to win in overtime. Both teams should have handily defeated their opponents on paper. But that's why we play the games.
As for the Pitt/Rutgers game, I'm less sure of a Panther victory as I was a month ago. Both teams "should" enter the game at 4-2. But with the Panthers playing at home in front of a Homecoming crowd, I just don't think the Knights have come far enough yet to pull it off.

Who is Pitt beating? Connecticut on the road on a Thursday night on National TV, or BC at home?

Tough loss, Easy. I know how it feels after watching the Miners lose their lead against Boise last week...
Who is Pitt beating? Connecticut on the road on a Thursday night on National TV, or BC at home?
Initially, my thinking was "they'd probably win one, but not win or lose both" as far as Connecticut and Boston College. I hadn't really thought about which. Forced into it, I'll go with a win over UConn, and a loss to BC, although both games will surely be pretty close. I think the Panthers actually benefit from the short practice week, less time for Walt Harris to fill their minds with his complicated mush (Pitt has played awful in the first half of games this season - presumably when they are running Harris' awful scheme) and play extremely well when they are playing hurry up catch up ball (more football instincts and less scheme, at least in my mind). I think Pitt will come out hungry on Thursday, especially the defense, wanting to prove the Furman game wasn't the norm and to atone for a relatively poor showing on national TV vs. Nebraska a few weeks back.
But if we lose to UConn, then I'll change my mind and say we'll beat BC...either way we'll be 4-2 with Rutgers coming to town :)
