View Full Version : Ardent to Iraq?
Apparently, it's an option.
I and 8 others from my base received an email Friday afternoon asking if I (we) would volunteer for a 6 month assignment to Iraq, presumably to work on electronics. I was also told in the email that I could still be chosen to go, volunteer or not. They're looking for 2 volunteers.
I suppose I find out today when I go in if I was "chosen". If I am chosen, I leave, umm, this week.
I have been told it's quite unlikely I will go.

Will you be able to log on to Hattrick over there ?
Let's not lose track of our priorities here please...
My thoughts exactly, Frog.
Edit: I'd be a ground unit augmenting the Army, as luck would have it.

More seriously though, keep us informed on your situation. I'd hate to see you go out there, it's such a crazy place...

If they send you to Iraq, drop your pants and claim you have found WMD's and begin humping a camel.
Good luck. If they select you, just play dumb and laugh at the guy next to you, maybe they won't notice and send him instead.

The first thing I learned back when I was in the Army was : "NEVER VOLUNTEER FOR ANYTHING!!!"
Anyway... whatever you decide good luck and take care.

Good luck Ardent. If you go, here's some advice:
#1: Take a shower whenever possible
#2: Don't become complacent! After going through the same routine day after day, seeing the same people, that is when the unexpected will occur.
#3: Buy the AT&T Phonecards through the military. They're pretty cheap. I called home on them.
#4: Bring checks. Most places will let you use your credit card/check & cash card, but checks are never a bad idea, depending on where you are.
Just some things I learned while over there.

Look on the bright side: At least it's only 6 months. Plus pay is all tax free baby!!! ;) A Transportation Unit soldier here is doiing rounds asking for volunteers to change their MOS to 88M (Transportation Specialist ie truck driver). I thought about pouncing on the chance but decided against it due to admission into the nursing program. Hope you dont get deployed.

Good luck, Ardent. Let DK and I know if we need to throw you an "executive" party for you if you end up shipping out.

Still no word. Maybe I'll find out tomorrow.
