John Woo to Direct & Produce He-Man (http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=2063)
Variety reports that Fox 2000 has set John Woo ("Paycheck") to direct and produce He-Man, a live-action film based on the characters in Mattel's "Masters of the Universe" line of action figures. Adam Rifkin will adapt the screenplay.
Originally made into an animated series in 1983, the property was also adapted into a live-action film in 1987 called Masters of the Universe, which starred Dolph Lundgren as the hero and Frank Langella as Skeletor.
He-Man began life as Prince Adam, the hybrid of an Earthling and an Eternian. At the age of 18, he was taken to Castle Grayskull, where Adam received super powers. He-Man has a sidekick in the form of a tiger, Battle Cat, and a deadly enemy, Skeletor.
Woo is also attached to direct The Rock in the video game adaptation "Spy-Hunter" for Universal Pictures.

Does this make it official that Hollywood is out of ideas? Spy Hunter? How is that a movie?

I guess I should comment on this, afterall my screen name is slightly taken from Battle-Cats alter ego Cringer (not my reasoning behind choosing the name, but there is a connection)
The first movie sucked, the cartoon was great when I was a kid though. Hope this movie is ok,

I just can't picture this exchange:
"Hey, what are you going to see tonite."
"I dunno...I though maybe I'd go see He-Man."
"Cool."

I think we should be more worried that they credit John Woo's most famous movie as Paycheck....

Paycheck was awful. The Dolph Lungred He-Man movie is infinitely better than Paycheck. That's all that needs to be said about that.
Woo has lost it. Hard Boiled. The Killer. Classics. Great films. I even liked "Hard Target." Since then his movies have just gotten crappier and crappier.
"Good journey!"

Just what I was going to say. Woo began his frigteningly quick descent into rubbish films as soon as he went to America. 'He-man' is the type of film which quite frankly I think Woo deserves to be directing. Perhaps it will also 'star' John Travolta and thus be another reason to not watch it. Pah.

The 'He-Man vs. Skeletor' song ruined the way I look at He-Man.

Face Off, maybe even Broken Arrow .. but Hard Target. Ughh ... mindless John Claude drivel.
Edit: Can't believe I just posted in a "He-Man" thread. :(

I wonder what promising actor is going to have his career killed by playing He-Man.

Dude, Hard Target is the best Jean Claud Van Damme movie ever. <-- This means nothing
I thought Hard Target was better than Broken Arrow and Face Off. Had less crappy nonsense.

Is Dolph signed on for this? Is he even still alive?

Was I the only guy who had a Chelsea Field thing going back in the day? She was inconsistent as a hottie, but I thought she had it going on in Masters of the Universe.
I also once got into an argument with a classmate who insisted that the Masters of the Universe was satanic because when Prince Adam turns into He-Man, he would yell, "I have the power," which she said was sacriligeous because only God can have the power. I insisted that she was a freakin' loon. Classic impasse.

Ow. This is going to hurt in a big way. Sure, they screw up the toy line and cancel the cartoon because of it, but they can make a bad theatrical movie?!? Life is not fair.
