LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rodney Dangerfield (news), the goggle-eyed comic famed for his self-deprecating one-liners and signature phrase "I can't get no respect," died on Tuesday at age 82, his publicist said.

Dangerfield, who became a pop culture sensation with a string of broad film comedies starting with "Caddyshack" in 1980, died at 1:20 p.m. PDT (4:20 p.m. EDT) at the UCLA Medical Center, where he had undergone heart valve replacement surgery in August, spokesman Kevin Sasaki said in a statement.

:( Hopefully he can get some respect now :(

I'm guessing that was one of those "last wishes" type things (i.e. "Hey, webmaster, when I finally kick off, could you use this one? I've been dying to put it on the page")

DANGEFIELD ADMITTED TO UCLA FOR HEART VALVE REPLACEMENT SURGERY
LOS ANGELES----Comic legend Rodney Dangerfield was admitted to the UCLA Medical Center today for heart valve replacement surgery. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Hillel Laks. Dangerfield underwent successful brain bypass surgery in April of last year in preparation for this procedure and is expected to do well.
When asked how long he will be in the hospital after the operation, Dangerfield quipped, "If things go right, I'll be there about a week, and if things don't go right, I'll be there about an hour and a half!"

Dangerfield recently released his bestselling autobiography, "It's Not Easy Bein' Me" (Harper/Collins), which landed on the NY Times Bestseller list. The movie rights were acquired by 20th Century Fox Studios, which will be produced by David Permut, who has also been shooting Rodney for several years for a theatrical documentary entitled, "Rodney Exposed."

Dangerfield will guest star in an episode of "Still Standng" this September and is the voice of a dog in Disney's "Phil of the Future" airing this Fall. He will also play himself in the animated hit series, "The Family Guy," scheduled to air in the Spring.

Other upcoming projects include "Rodney Dangerfield: The Ultimate No Respect Collection, a special R2 Entertainment DVD package release of Dangerfield's Las Vegas stand-up act and his HBO Television specials which helped launch the careers of Jerry Seinfeld, Tim Allen, Sam Kinison, Roseanne, Bob Saget, Louie Anderson, and Andrew Dice Clay.

He was on Leno back in the summer. He wasn't well. He was great when telling stories, like about finding out he was in a hotel room across the hall from President Clinton, and realizing that the secret service was 10 feet away and he had a ton of marijuana in the room! WHere he looked really bad was answering questions. Jay asked him a followup question to a story and he had absolutely no idea what Jay was talking about.

God bless ya Rodney!
