So, I'm playing a career where I actually try to improve my school's academic reputation. After 3 or 4 seasons, I have the highest undergrad GPA by far... yet my overall reputation still sucks.

What am I missing?

A few thoughts:

1. I don't think it matters all that much what the school's overall rep is - as far as recruiting goes, it's how your school ranks in the particular subject a recruit is planning to major in;

2. There seems to be a cap for each school on how high their overall academic rep will go (though there's no such cap for each individual major for a school). Speculation is that the number of majors offered by the school is the primary limiting factor on the maximum overall rep;

3. There's some thought that players failing a class (and being suspended for a year because of it) will put a drag on your overall academic rep. I don't know it this is actually the case, but there's some anecdotal evidence;

4. I have my acadmic settings such that my teams usually have team GPA's between 3.30-3.40, always the tops in the country, and my schools generally advance around 3 points in overall academic reputation before reaching the theoretical ceiling.

Each school seems to haveand overall academic rating attributed to it that limits how far you can get by on actual GPA. If you think about this it makes sense. IRL, supposing Louisville went on a binge where they only recruited really smart players and the team GPA went over 3.0. Does that suddenly mean Louisville is in the same league as Duke or Stanford academically? No, it just means they have a bunch of smart football players. Jim does a decent job of limiting the influence of team grades on overall school reputations, although I think he should limit it even more.
