Transfers in year 1

I really would like to go out and buy a player or two in my first year but I'm wondering how cautious I should be in going after anyone. It's week 1 for me and I don't know how much money I'll be bringing in every week...etc. And I'm not too sure how much to pay for a real solid player in the transfer market.

Any quick tips?

when i first started i bought guys 29+ to save money. they are a ton cheaper and you get the experience bonuses. plus most of the guys you buy now will be gone in a season or two anyway as you quickly upgrade.
i would focus on putting money into trainees, but thats me. but it definately is a good idea to get an idea of your bi-weekly income before you get into debt.

Do you mean the youth program? Or going out and getting some decent young guys?

i mean going out and buying some 17-18 year old passables in whatever you plan on training.

i suggest scoring by the way, they are too expensive and the more trainers will bring the price down ;)

I would suggest training midfield for a beginner. It's nice to have a great attack, but you won't get anywhere without a decent midfield in the lower levels.

all youth pulls have passable form when they get to your team, so no you didn't luck out. :)

You got the typical crappy first youth pull that we all got :)

Dola, the only thing the guide doesn't cover right now is the doubling of stadium expansion price at the end of this season. Therefore, I'd recommend planning for an expansion by the end of the season, even if you're not getting the attendance to support it. Just be careful with your economy.

I'm suggesting you make sure that at whatever position you're training, you get a full set of trainees, preferably 17 to 18 with passable skill in whatever it is that's getting trained. At that position, you shouldn't really have anybody else besides your trainees (unless you want to hold onto a guy to play when somebody's injured who will get occasional training).

17 to 18 year old passables should be under $50k, I would think. If 17's are running too high (as they might be at this point in the season), get 18's.

not at all. you only need the number of trainees that you can possibly train in 1 week. for instance, PM can train 3 guys 100% and 2 guys at 50% per game. you have 2 games per week. so you would want 10 trainees.

Ahh ok...so a "trainee" in essence is just a player on your team then. Well that seems a bit more feasible. :D Ok...well I've already picked up one 17 yr old this afternoon for $6,000 and am in line for another hopefully also around the same amount.

Ok...well here are the three trainees I picked up yesterday. All are IM's and none of which were more than $10,000. Any input is welcome.

Another question I have is that being that my team is up in Seattle...would it benefit me to go after guys who are "Powerful" or will the weather not have that much effect during my games.

So...i finally have my defense in shape and will switch to keeper training because people that are stupid should only train keepers.

First off, I never said you were stupid IN THIS THREAD (despite what your HT-mail says). As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I've only called you stupid in IRC and that's because there you were being a moron, I'm the only one who detests stupidity enough to call you out on it.

So now let's get to the real heart of the matter. "Stupid."
Obviously I must be stupid because I am in V after 5 full HT seasons despite promoting to IV twice. Do you REALLY want to open this can of worms? If you BOTHERED to look at the history of this fed and particularly this board you would see what my history has been like.
Promoted too early when I did at first because my V series wasn't very good. I was training GK's at the time and had just pulled Jonathan Dixon, who eventually made the u20 as a GK. If you would BOTHER to read the history here or even at my HT-Arena site, you'd see that having a nats teamer GK...or even a GK who has a CHANCE at a national team slot...is a very demanding task. Particularly for a team that has advanced too quickly and is short on money to begin with.
I promoted into one of the hardest IV series at the time. I won a few games. I lost a bunch. I tied a couple. I auto-demoted, sure, but I learned a ton. Went back to V, dominated, and then was back in IV.
Now if you ask anybody who was following my matches last season ([deleted]) you'll know that quite often, I was just unlucky. More than a few times I outrated a team across the board and lost. 2/3 of the way through last season haing Dixon on my squad was too much..so I sold him and started a new training plan.
Admittedly it would have been better to wait for a new season to start a new training program. But I really didn't have that luxury. Do I admit to making a few bad decisions? Absolutely. To err is human, and I think 99% of the people here will admit to making a bad choice or two in their HT career.
As for going out in round 4 each year..well, once I was robbed and the others have been about injury, red cards, and this new training plan.

I wouldn't start trashing other teams that could kick your ass before you go out and prove that you some Godlike manager. I've been in IV for tons of seasons.. since season 19 i believe and do I suck? I think most would say no.

A few words of advice.. don't come to a new place and make enemies right away.. FOFC has a lotta nice people..

Okay, I just read the whole outburst, that was probably started by my own self with a witty little comment made among friends, to YoSoySean. And by "whole" I mean deleted messages included because I can do that.

Shawn, we're a pretty close knit group of friends around here. Meanwhile, you are fairly new first to HT, then to this group. Nobody's saying they know everything about HT, but most of us have been playing in average for over a year and a half, in calendar time, so about 5 seasons. Unless you've had a team before, you still have some things to learn about HT, things I'm sure many people around here will be happy to tell you, if you ask them kindly.

As mrkilla pointed out, the tone and wording of a post can lead people in taking your comment in very different ways. In the future, please make sure you can discuss matters with all the facts, without saying all kinds of rumours or false affirmations about someone.

Finally, I'll do what I've never done before in the HT forum, other than for transfer market ads, and it's that I'll close this thread.
