Ok...well here are the three trainees I picked up yesterday. All are IM's and none of which were more than $10,000. Any input is welcome.

A fairly good haul. Two things to keep in mind for middie trainees:
1) Stamina is a must
2) Secondaries are nice

I would try not to get anyone with stamina below, well, weak, because you're already going to have to train that pretty good right now anyways to get them up to speed. You really want them to be solid, possibly excellent stamina to be fully effective. So, in the future, search for at least weak or higher stamina- stamina's rough to train because you'd prefer to only do it in the offseason but it hurts form. Also, if, for an extra $10K or so each snag a guy with passable passing or defending, that's even better because they'll make your team more flexible and sell for quite a bit more.

Thanks for the assessment SI. I definitely will start looking for guys with higher stamina and that secondary. I really didn't want to overspend right out of the shoot...but I do feel a little more confident after looking over the transfer list the last couple of days and getting comfortable with what I'm looking for. Today I really need to look at some defenders...so I'll keep you posted.

I wouldn't worry too much about overspending on trainees. For instance, if you get one with passable passing, he'll sell for $300K more but you'll only have to pay $20K more or so (I don't know how much exactly) when he's only pass/pass. The bigger problem is overspending on the rest of your team so you can't do important things like coach (get a solid/poor coach! immediately!) and stadium upgrade (since it's about to become cost prohibitive, you'll want to bump up to ~15K).
