I have $2.7M CDN after the sale of a couple of youth pulls, and am looking to upgrade something on my team. I'm in IV, and don't expect to finish higher than 6th. Maybe even 7th.

I'm thinking a coach upgrade is the way to go... but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe someone here can help me again. :) I run a 4-4-2 with 1 winger, 3 IM. Here's my team (Ramon is the coach).

I assume you are training defense (you better be with all thos defenders). I'd sell Beau and Ippolito and get an excellent (at least) winger and play him offensive. Everyone will say make sure your coach is a solid trainer so I won't :) I would go after another forward and play a 3-4-3 as I think it's superior to a 4-4-2 but that's just me.

Yes I train defenders... so can't run the 3-4-3. I'd lose another trainee spot.

If you're recruiting a coach rather than promoting a player, then get solid training skill / poor leadership, any more leadership than that costs too much for too little in return.

If you're planning on promoting a player at some point in the future, get as much leadership as you can, since it doesn't cost you any more in the conversion.

I don't know anything about coaches... How would I go about getting a guy to promote??

I read that the player has to be with you for one season... so external hiring it is.

I'm guessing since I train defenders, I can use as much attacking as possible... so get a coach tha's fond of attacking, has poor leadership, and solid skill? That would cost $537K CDN...

That's right.

As far as getting a guy to promote as a coach, you want someone with some experience (figure about a season for him to gain a level assuming he plays in all your league matches and most cup matches, he'll need to reach solid exp to be turned into a solid coach) and as much leadership as you can get. Solid leadership is obviously best, but at that point you risk having him be your team leader until he's turned into a coach (OK if he's a clown or semi-clown but otherwise perhaps not what you want).

You can buy guys like this on the transfer list (experience is something you can use as a filter for searches), but their market price may take the potential savings of turning them into a coach (vs. buying the same kind of coach in an external hiring) into account.
