I bought this guy yesterday for 1 458 000 C$, and got a message from the guy selling him, saying I got him cheap because Hattrick was down for awhile... what do you think? Can he be used as a team leader too?

I'd say the price is about right. Wingers are usually selling for dirt cheap, and a winger with defending as his only good secondary isn't what I'd overpay to get...

As far as being a team leader, no. He only has poor leadership, which is the first thing you gotta look first when you want to consider a player as a leader. Then you check if he'll lead your team to the good side (popular guy) or the bad sid (controversial, nasty)...

Thanks. I didn't care about the secondary.... it was just there.

I'll just tack on in this thread instead of starting a new one.

How do you forward trainers feel about secondaries?

I'm looking into an outstanding scorer w. weak/inad passing (don't want to get hammered with a passing premium), with unpredictable or header specialty. I'm a wing trainer, so the head would work with the extremely rare winger SE.

Any other input? I have some quick ones bookmarked too, but it seemed like header and unpredictable had zero downside, with some upside. The rest had some negatives associated with weather.

Not a forward trainer, but I absolutely love having secondaries AND specialties on my forwards.
And on my IM's, who I TRIED to select so they all had inad+ passing (personally I think inad is the lowest I'd go, but I don't sweat getting much higher than that, either). I think 5 of my 6 main trainees do in fact have inad passing.

On my wingers and my forwards I looked for unpredictable and/or head. Got it on some of them. :) The secondaries I've found usually drive up the price more than the specialty, which is why I keep the level of passing to inadequate/passable. Of course, there's also the technique of training passing for a bit in each season, like I know some have done (and I've seriously considered doing).

The 2 best specialties for a forward are unprideictable and quick. Yes weather will be a differance, but more people have tech defenders as compared to headers. Qucik is considered better because it give a chance at an SE goal.

He's not -exactly- what I wanted, but he's close. I'd wanted a head or unpredictable, but this guy went at $1.6million, and it was the low end of market. I'm a sucker for a deal, and while it wasn't a steal, it was a good deal.

Now go ahead and affirm that I did good.

Back to discussion on secondaries real quick. On my fowards I like the Head specialty along with unpredictable. On my wingers I like quick the most, and the only one I abhor is unpredictable defenders. I will never buy a defender with this, and am not that partial to IM with it as well.

Fink, nice deal for you!

Eiffel, I'm not afraid of unpredictable defenders for the most part. The reason is that the negative event is based on the defender's level. That's a problem if he's, say, Poor Defender, but really a non-issue if he's excellent.

I have a -wretched- defending IM, so the negative event can occur. In some 30 games with him, he has one negative unpredictable event. Again, with wretched defending, one negative event. He has 3 positive events based on his Weak Passing.

If anything, unpredictable defenders can be mispriced because of the specialty. Granted, the skill does present an element of volatility to the defender, but with upside as well as downside.

i like having guys with head specialties, if you have a high SP player you will notice it! (unfortunately for me, its only been in friendlies, but someday my SP guy will be ready to start :D)
