I was searching through some old threads the other day and I stumbled onto one that talked about a cheap way to buy a clown. I'm just starting out and I don't have $80,000 to drop on one...so this idea about searching the transfer list for clowns with 0 TSI is brilliant. Well I've noticed two things about this kind of "clown hunting" if you will.

1) I'm certainly not the only one that is doing this. If you don't find one within 3 or 4 mintues after it gets dumped on the transfer list...well you're just outta luck cause someone else is going to beat you to it.

2) Since $10,000 is highest bid you can place on a player with a TSI of 0...why do some of these owners put a starting bid of an amount that's usually well over $10,000? Some of these guys are in series IV or higher...so I know they know what they're doing. So why would they do this? And why does Hattrick allow anyone to place someone on the market for a starting bid of over the maximum in the first place? It's highly annoying.

2) Just because some people have been playing longer, doesn't mean they automatically know what they are doing :)

:D Great point. I just started to see a pattern develop and it made me wonder if I was missing something.

What I did when I searched for such a clown was to put in the search: maximum bid of 10,000. That way you filter out all those other silly starting bids.

And mind you, I haven't been able to successfully get a clown this way the few times when I have tried...

This is where the scanners make their bread & butter. Some of them have been cought, but I don't have any confidence that it's put them out of business.

The reason I don't do this is that if you see someone that does have a 0 TSI Clown out there for $50,000 for example...then you can bookmark that player. And if the owner decides to put him back out on the transfer wire a few days later...for the correct amount...then if you're online...you can put a bid in w/o having to scour the transfer list. ;)

yeah, this is in the fofc faq. i wrote the post on it probably. do a search right after that countries pull time. then search for newest first with a tsi of 0. dont worry about bidding starting prices because they can be anywhere. it will take a while, but youll find one cheap. i did.

Yup...it was your post indeed that inspired me to scour the transfer list night and day this weekend...ha. Sorry I didn't give you specific credit off the bat...but you certainly did write it.

oh, no i wasnt looking for credit, i was just saying i wrote one in the faq. i wasnt sure if you got it here or on another website.

btw, it took me about 2 weeks of search at country youth pull times. it takes a while. i finally found one in argentina i think.

i also got lucky with one of my trainees being a clown. you might want to consider thinking about doing something simlar. if you are going to dump 80-160k in a trainee, might as well look for one that is a clown and kill two birds with one stone. sure youll have to look for another clown in a season or two when you sell the trainee, but that gives you plenty of time to look.
