My next game is vs a team that has used the same tactic/orders for the last three games now. So even though it's a friendly...he has a little bit stronger team and I would like to use the exhibition to try out some different strategies.

Anyway...using hattrix backdraft...I see that these are the orders that he's used for the last three games:

I run a 3-5-2...does this cry out for attack on wings? He seems to have a logjam at central defense...but nothing on the wings.

EDIT: Also...is this guy repositioning too many of his players? It seems like there's too much of that in his lineup.

It cries out for the strongest wing attack you can muster, it's up to you whether you think your skill at AOW would be good enough to justify the attempt.

Looking at the guy's ratings, one wing defense (the one which doesn't have an OCD on it) is significantly better than the other, you'd want to put your weaker attack on that side.

As to whether the guy is repositioning too many players... yeah, that would generally not be recommended.

When I'm setting up my plan...I go opposite his correct?

So for example...if his right side defense is the worse of the two...I want to put my best winger on the left attack correct? Or do I match-up right on right?

Dola - Answered my own question. I think I found a thread that explained it. Go figure.

Put your strongest offensive middie, offensive winger, and striker where Moyse, Jaggy, and Okkema are for his team. That right side defense is hideous. You'll want to put most of your attacking power over there because his other wing and center are significantly stronger. Of course, if he mixes up which side he puts people on, then things get a bit more interesting and you're left guessing as to which side he leaves depleted.

Your left attack is opposite his right defense, and so on. I've had a couple of counterintuitive results playing matchups (or failing to play matchups) this season, so it's by no means a guarantee of success.

e.g. last match I nailed the matchups and had very favorable attack ratings in two out of three sectors, but didn't score on any of 3 or 4 chances.

e.g. in my cup elimination match, I screwed up my defensive positioning, and got a strong defense against his weak attack and a weak defense against his strong attack, yet only gave up two goals.

Thanks...I finally figured that out after searching through an old thread last night. I've had to do little switching up of my tactic in league play so far as only one other guy in my league is running something different than the default 4-4-2. So I thought this would be a nice chance to actually use some thought in what my players are gonna do on the field.

And yeah I know that this won't be instance success...but I'd be happy if I actually scored a goal because of the changes that I made.

Dola - So I'm using HAM to put together my lineup and I've decided to really push my attack on the left by putting my left wing and left IM in offensive mode and my best forward on the left as well. Well I think in order to have a really effective attack on the wing the wing back must be taken into consideration as well correct? Well I don't have a great backup wing back so the guy I have back there brings my Hatstats down when he's either normal or offensive....but if I make him defensive...my Hatstats rating goes up.

So is it absolutely necessary that I include him in the attack or if his rating in that area is so bad...it won't matter much anyway??

If you think you can do better than his attack on this side (poor very high) with a normal wingback, you can try, else it won't really matter, I find normal or offensive wingbacks useless when their winger rating is below solid.

It's certainly not necessary to play a wingback offensive to get good attack ratings on a side; I do just fine with defensive wingbacks and a really nice winger. If you've got a wingback with good winger skill and you don't mind giving up the defense, it could be worthwhile to do.
