5/64 or 5/65- in either case, what a deal, given Sexson (a far more mediocre player) recieved 4/50. Great deal for the Mariners- And I hope Adrian enjoys Seattle... :D

It seems as if the middle market has seen some inflationary pressure- but not the top end - if the difference between Beltre and Sexson ends up being less than $1 million a year- well, that's just hilarious.

You think Sexson is a far more mediocre player? I haven't looked at the numbers of their respective deals, but Sexson has had some very good seasons. If I remember correctly, Beltre has had only one. Yes he has a ton of talent, but track record is important in my opinion.

Aye, but Sexson's coming of shoulder surgery, is entering his decline phase- while Beltre is 25, and entering his peak stage. I'll Beltre over Sexson next year - friendly wager ? :D

I was just about to DOLA this same thing. I just looked at his final numbers for last year, and they're just sick. If he continues that, this is a great deal. If he goes back to what he was doing before, it's not.

25. At worst, you got an above average offensive 3b who's probably the best in the AL now (well, along with Eric Chavez)- with better offense. I think even he reverts back to being a 115 OPS+ hitter, this is a good deal.

This is a pretty good deal for Seattle if he continues to be an upper echelon hitter. If he doesnt, at least the mariners are only paying this for 5 years vs 7 or 10,

You're probably right. Even if your post was out of order... :D

I'm surprised someone didn't give him a longer deal. With his age, I figured he'd get something in the neighborhood of 7 years.

If the Reds could make one F'ing move, I might be happy for a second.

Well it's because of the track record. Beltre has one good year. Most GMs don't want to pay 7 years for just one year.

The Dodgers offered him 7 years. They just didn't give him the $13m annual value that the Mariners were willing to offer.

Why not? He has experience at the position.
