This sort of started in the one of the Xbox threads... I like to take things apart and build things on my own. I guess I never grew out of that phase! Do any of you do this? Build Spud Canons? Robots? anything? I thought I would list a few of my sources and hopefully gain a few in return.
123 Robotics Experiments for the Evil Genius by Myke Predko
From a simple paper tube/pipe cleaner Robot on up to the good stuff. A good start for the novice interested in Robots.
Electronic Gadgets for the Evil Genius by Robert E. Iannini
More advanced, but easy to build stuff. Most projects int his book cost $50 in materials. You can build a radar gun, laser listening devices and more.
Hardware Hacking Projects for Geeks by Scott Fullam
Learn how to build a video periscore for your car, hack a Furby and build a MAME based arcade system.
Backyard Ballistics by William Gurstelle (Spud guns baby!)
Paper match rockets, Tennis Ball Mortars to tabletop catapults, it's all here.
The Art of the Catapult: Build Greek Ballistae, Roman Onagers, English Trebuchets, and More Ancient Artillery by William Gurstelle
10 working catapult projects. Total War players take note!
Sneaky Uses for Everyday Things by Cy Tymony
Change milk into plastic, how to make clubs and knives from rocks and glass shards (safe for the kids! not!), and lots of offbeat things to make.
Steel Bolt Hacking by douglas Chick
Learn how to pick locks. Just for fun of course. ;)
Most of these "projects" are inexpensive and if you have kids they love to get involved.
