Has this already been done somewhere with a utility?

If not, is this possible? I know it would be tedious but perhaps if we shared the chore between a handful of us we could update a league file for MP to include NFL history for 100% historical accuracy with all of the html files.

If someone gets me started I'll start on it tomorrow...

Nope, I just have a full-time job in which I sit at a CPU all day and can pretty much do what I please...Again, if someone can get me started I'd be interested in trying, I'm just not too good with maneuvering around these .dat files or whatever they are.

Thanks Sachmo, I'm really trying to focus on updating the record books. I'd like for Dan Marino to have the most TD passes in a season, and Emmitt Smith to be the all-time leading rusher etc (going into the 2004 season).

Can I have a job too?

While it may not be 100% accurate, there have been draft files made for every year from 1971 to today, I believe. 3Ric and company have done some wonderful work on this.

Not sure if you can add yearly stats, though. I doubt it.

What you'd have to do is to re-create the yearly files with names such as 0000333.1990, 0000333.1991, 0000333.1992 and so on. Those contain the stats for past years. Then you have to find out how to put in all of the retired players to have them refer to the past games that was played in those seasons, I think they are in the *.frc or the *.fga file. That'll require huge amounts of editing, and a specific tailor-made utility (which doesn't exist yet) that can display the database content for easy editing will be essential to have.

If you quick-sim through the historical league files then you'll have 30 years of history in your universe folder and the correct names will already be there. Then if you can edit the statistical data game by game then it should add up to the correct records for the real-life NFL. Of course, that approach doesn't take into account for injuries or early retirements.
