Is that just good for trick plays, for trick plays and counters, or for every play? How important is play diagnosis for each position?

Based only on anecdotal evidence I think it affects all plays. I have had 2 starting DE's, 1 with much better play diagnosis, the other with slightly better skills otherwise, and the guy with better play diagnosis outperformed the other. I have also seen guys with meager skills but high play diagnosis perform better than reasonably expected. So I assume it affects ability to be where the ball is going. However, I lack the patience and determination to really test this. For that I depend on the hard work of other people around here.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with detecting what kind of play it is. In the help file it says that it is the ability to recognize the flow of a play. I feel this is being able to identify counters, play-action, draws and most importantly, runs when the defense is expecting pass and passes when the defensive is expecting run.
