And Shawn Green heading out as part of it? Not bloody likely.

Jan. 4 - At the Dodgers' request, The Diamondbacks have 48 hours, not 72, to negotiate a contract extension with Shawn Green, The Los Angeles Times reports. Arizona likely will ask Green, who will make $16 million this season, to take a pay cut close to 50 percent, possibly in the $8 million to $10 million annual million range, The Arizona Republic reports.

I like this move by Arizona. It would be nice to have Green, but not at over $10 mil a season. If he doesn't take the deal, he's welcome to see what he can get in FA in 05. The point here is that even if Green hits 40 HR and stays healthy, he won't get more than $10 mil a season. I think the two year $18-$20 mil extension is fair for both sides and I would expect him to agree to it. But, if he doesn't, I wouldn't want Arizona to overpay to get him.
