Interesting factoid about the NHL Strike.

Some teams couldn't play now if they ended the strike.

The Bruins wouldn't be ready to start a season if there is one because they have only 11 players signed to NHL contracts. The Capitals (14 players signed) and Rangers (15) are in similar situations.

Everyone's expecting them to declare an impasse after cancelling this season and try to bring in replacement players next year.. they just want to provide the illusion of being willing to negotate first.

Those teams didn't want to have a ton of players signed and then find out they were $20 mil over the new salary cap.

It's well known that many teams have few players under contract because of the uncertainty of the CBA. It will present an interesting challenge to those teams when (if?) this thing ever gets resolved, but it's not exactly evidence of some sort of conspiracy.
