It is really close in terms of who was the single greeatest genius named Al. Einstein or Yankovic. Sure, Einstein had a lot going for him, but Weird Al could literally take any popular song and make it about food.

The Saga Begins (another AWESOME video)
Special bonus points to "Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung" for tackling such delicate subject matter.

"Why Does This Always Happen To Me?" needs to be on the list of originals.
I'm partial to "Ode to a Superhero" as far as parodies go, but I also have an odd attachment to "Theme From Rocky XXXVIII."

I'll have to chew on the Mount Rushmore. May be too difficul to narrow down to four classics.
For originals, I think Melanie and Good Old Days are underrated. Good Enough for Now is another. I tend to like his original tunes that parody a musical style or artists. Good Old Days is a great James Taylor parody.
Based on the concerts, I think the biggest fan reactions have been for Amish Paradise and Dare to Be Stupid. Aside, of course, from Yoda and The Saga Begins which he usually does together as an encore that really gets the crowd going.
I think my proudest musical possession would be a copy of his never-released "It's Still Billy Joel To Me." I think QS would enjoy that one.

Jeez, a Weird Al Mount Rushmore? That's damned difficult. I'll give it a quick shot.
The Night Santa Went Crazy
You Don't Love Me Anymore
Smells Like Nirvana
It's All About the Pentiums
With the right setup, "The Night Santa Went Crazy" is awesome in concert. The first time I saw him, I was in a place (the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans) that did snow effects with bubbles. At the time, I thought Al had brought that setup, but the next time I saw him was at the House of Blues, and it didn't happen (then again, he didn't sing the song either). On top of that, I went back to the Saenger to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and they did the snow effect, so I guess it was a Saenger thing.
"Bedrock Anthem" and "Like A Surgeon" are great in concert, too.
I particularly like "When I Was Your Age," "Talk Soup," and "King of Suede" off the top of my head, but they're certainly not Mount Rushmore material. I really need to look at a complete discography to try to make my definitive Mount Rushmore, but I feel pretty comfortable with the four I chose. Damn, I might have to listen to Weird Al on the way home from work tonight.

That reminds me, I've also seen him twice in concert and it's just awesome. He brings in video boards with sketches, music videos, etc and has all kinds of props and costumes. It's really an awesome show. My only regret is that both times I went, no one was really getting into the concert, people were mostly dead in their seats, clapping after each song, but this is a far departure from the type of rock concerts I'm used to

Errr, I don't think "Weenie in a Bottle" is Weird Al.
However, in the early 80s, Al DID have an unreleased, "concert only" song called "If I could make love to a bottle," based on the Jim Croce song.
I have seen Albuquerque performed as a prose interpretation. I've been to 6 live Al shows, meeting him and getting an autograph twice. I also won a radio contest for tickets by rubbing cottage cheese on my body while singing "Attack of the Radioactive Hamsters from a Planet Near Mars."
I also brought in "Gangsta's Paradise" and "Amish Paradise" to teach my students a lesson about how music can be poetry.
I love Al. I hope Al loves me.
In a platonic way.

My Mt. Rushmore of Weird Al songs, and why I put them there:
* My Bologna (the first parody)
* Eat It (the commercial success)
* One More Minute (the first original to be released as a single)
* Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota (the first epic)
These aren't my favorites. But I do think he's been underappreciated as a musical genius.
Nature Trail to Hell (in 3D) will always be one of my favorites. Usually see him every time he comes to Meadowbrook in Michigan. Love him in concert.

Well, I listened to three of his albums at work today, and got to listen to some goodies for the first time in a while (ones that aren't on my one mix CD of his), such as "The Night Santa Went Crazy", "Bohemian Polka", "She Never Told Me She Was A Mime", and "Since You've Been Gone".
Speaking of my mix CD, on road trips with friends, I always have it with me. We do a pretty mean version of "One More Minute". Of course, the best part might be that after that song's mellow ending, the next song kicks in right away: "Living With A Hernia". Of course, I have to scream the "OW!" a few seconds into it.

One of Yankovic's most controversial parodies was 1996's "Amish Paradise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish_Paradise)", based on "Gangsta's Paradise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gangsta%27s_Paradise_%28song%29)" by hip-hop artist Coolio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coolio). Reportedly, Coolio's label gave Yankovic the impression that Coolio had granted permission to record the parody, but Coolio maintains that he never did. Complicating the issue further, "Gangsta's Paradise" already samples heavily from a Stevie Wonder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Wonder) song, "Pastime Paradise." While Coolio claimed he was upset, legal action never materialised, and Coolio accepted royalty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royalties) payments for the song. After this controversy, Yankovic has always made sure to speak directly with the artist of every song he parodied. At the XM Satellite Radio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM_Satellite_Radio) booth at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Electronics_Show) Yankovic and Coolio made peace. On his Website, Yankovic wrote of this event, "I don’t remember what we said to each other exactly, but it was all very friendly… I doubt I’ll be invited to Coolio’s next birthday party, but at least I can stop wearing that bulletproof vest to the mall."[27] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic#_note-22)
In 2003, Yankovic was denied permission to make a video for "Couch Potato", his parody of Eminem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eminem)'s "Lose Yourself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lose_Yourself)":
<DL><DD>"Last year, Eminem forced me to halt production on the video for my 'Lose Yourself' parody because he somehow thought that it would be harmful to his image or career."[28] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic#_note-23) </DD></DL>For the Poodle Hat Al TV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_TV) special, Yankovic raised the question of artistic expression in a false interview with Eminem. As always, Yankovic edited the footage of a previous Eminem interview and inserted himself asking questions such that it made Eminem sound like a hypocrite on the matter of an artist's right to free speech (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_speech).[29] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic#_note-24)

When I was a little kid, I asked my mom to play for music lessons so that I could learn how to play "This is the life." (the theme from Johnny Dangerously)
On the organ. <groan>
My List:
All Time Favorite: Need I say?
Fave Polka: Polkarama! and Polka Power! (tie. both crack me up every time)
The Night Santa Went Crazy (Nothing says Christmas like mass reindeercide)
Love Weird Al's but not the original: Amish Paradise and Smells Like Nirvana (tie)
ANd "FAT"--I can't even remember the lyrics to "Bad" without imagining them to the FAT video.

All these Weird Al songs and nobody's mentioned "The White Stuff" yet?
That was a song we listened to nonstop at summer camp way back in the day.

This thread just proves how timeless Wierd Al is.
I was showing my kids his backlog of videos on Youtube and stumbled onto White and Nerdy...then E-Bay. What a genius. But still my all-time favorite line is: Your tablemanners are a crying shame, stop playing with your food this aint some kinda game!
My Mount Almore:

Don't worry too much. His versions are better than the originals.

There's a joke in here somewhere.

Yeah, I sorta felt like that when the "Running With Scissors" album came out. I mean, I knew which songs he was parodying, but I hadn't heard them before. To this day, I still haven't heard "It's All About the Benjamins" and I heard "Pretty Fly For a Rabbi" before I heard "Pretty Fly For a White Guy." A long time ago, I had heard every song he parodied a bunch of times. Now, it's hit-and-miss. "American Idiot"? Yes, I've heard it a lot. "Ridin' Dirty"? No, I still haven't heard it at all.
I still love the parodies because they generally don't require you to hear the original first anyway. I guess the theme of "Smells Like Nirvana" would be lost on someone who hasn't heard the song he's parodying, but for the most part, the parodies work on their own.
I've now seen Weird Al in concert 4 times, and I'll see him the next time he performs within 50 miles of me, whenever that is. It'll probably be several years from now, but I guess I have to wait. It's not like I'm going to go to his house with a bloody bouquet of roses with his name stitched into my forehead.
Waaaait a minute. That gives me an idea...

I love Whatever You Like, both the T.I. version and the Weird Al version. It's arguable which one is better, so I tend to listen to them about equally.
Weird Al is great.
