Agreed, next year will be a tough year for the Pats, and the Big Ben in Pittsburgh will be a year more mature. I think the Pats will be in the playoff mix, but Bellichik will be breaking in some new staff so it will be tough to keep the momentum rolling.

I've mentioned it a time or two. :p
As I've said before, Tucker has had a ridiculous string of tailbacks going to schools in BCS Conferences, dating back to before Patrick, even. There was a kid before Patrick whose name I can't recall. (I moved to Tucker when Patrick was a Senior, but I think digamma would know who the other kid was.) After that kid, we've had....
Patrick Pass-->UGA
Jabari Davis-->UT
Terrell Jordan-->Northwestern
Thomas Brown-->UGA
Brandyn Young--signed with USC on Wednesday
And next up, there's yet ANOTHER boy dat run so good. I'll start talking smack about RB Asher Allen soon enough. He's benching 330 now, and might be a hair faster than Thomas. Barring injury, the recruiting gurus will be comparing Asher to Thomas by October at the latest, due to their similar strength/speed combination.

I'm sure it must be bittersweet to see Corey Dillon help bring home the title tonight, i know you've always been a big fan. I thought he played extremely well, and it was obvious he would have run through a brick wall if needed in a few situations.
As much as it kills me (as a Jet fan) to see the Pats do so well, it's hard not to respect a team of guys who clearly give it their all every time out there.

Agreed. I was happy for them as a dynasty that has a bunch of great players that were always considering underdogs, and take contract hits to keep the team together... but now that they are under dynasty status, 3 is enough. :)
I heard Shaun Alexander has a (slight/small?) interest in joining the Bengals. Of course we would never push for him, but, a man can dream..

Easy Mac
02-06-2005, 11:46 PM
He caught a lot of short passes, but except for that one catch and run, I don't think he really had much impact on the game. I saw a lot of 5-6 yard catch and run out of bounds plays.
Terrell's yards on each catch:
7
9
30
10
8
7
36
5
10
So 1 catch of 5-6
3 of 7-8
3 of 9-10
and 2 of 30+
yep that was a lot of 5 yards and oob's plays. But of course, broken bones generally don't take away a person's ability to blow by someone downfield.
Easy Mac
02-06-2005, 11:55 PM
And just to finish my thought, here is how TO did on each catch:
2nd down, first yards of game, made it 3rd and 3
2nd down, made it 3rd and 3
3rd down, got first down, made it 1st and 8 @ NE 8
1st down, got first down
1st down, made it 2nd and 2
1st down, made it 2nd and 3
2nd down, got first down
3rd down, got first down
3rd down, got first down
So, he got 1st downs on 5/9 catches, and never left the team with more than 3rd yards on downs after he caught the ball. I'd say thats a pretty decent game.

I thought T.O. played extremely well. I'm also glad he spoke his mind after the game. He's absolutely right to say the media was out to get him (for whatever reason). Almost all players in this position would be a 'warrior,' but the media was calling T.O. a distraction, selfish, etc...
I give him a lot of credit for playing and risking further injury. If he never makes it back to the big game, he'll at least have peace of mind, knowing he did everything he could have in this game. I respect that.
SunDevil
02-07-2005, 12:04 AM
I do not like TO at all. Given that, I have respect for his playing ability and what he did for the Super Bowl. But the TD celebrations and some of the stuff he says off the field just bugs me. But the media covering this game and saying bad stuff about TO trying to play this are a bunch of idiots and again this is another reason why I hate the 2 week break between the championship game and the superbowl.
ISiddiqui
02-07-2005, 12:06 AM
Yep, for all of his off the field antics, I got great respect for TO on the field. He ALWAYS gives it his all. He is a good blocker as well when he is called upon to do it. His playing through what had to be great pain just sealed what a great player he is.

Why, because there was no awful R&B, rap, fake-punk, psuedo-metal, or Britney Spears?

I just got back from watching the Super Bowl, and don't want to read the whole thread... but I just have to say how much I respect Owens for what he did today. He did everything he could on his part, and played without doctor's clearance. I applaud him for what he did today.

And just to finish my thought, here is how TO did on each catch:
2nd down, first yards of game, made it 3rd and 3
2nd down, made it 3rd and 3
3rd down, got first down, made it 1st and 8 @ NE 8
1st down, got first down
1st down, made it 2nd and 2
1st down, made it 2nd and 3
2nd down, got first down
3rd down, got first down
3rd down, got first down
So, he got 1st downs on 5/9 catches, and never left the team with more than 3rd yards on downs after he caught the ball. I'd say thats a pretty decent game.
Point taken. But what I was trying to get at is that I never felt like, "oh man, they better take care of Owens because he's dominating this game."

Just skimmed some of the posts. Here are my thoughts (First off, Shorty, you have to be brain dead to think that halftime show was worse than any of the previous ones).
T.O. impressed me. I thought he'd be T.O. * 0.5 after halftime but he stayed strong through the game. He also played smart, knowing he had a vulnerable leg, he stepped out of bounds instead of making inside moves. Smart on his end.
McNabb was very on/off the whole game. One drive he looks great, the next he's throwing the ball all over the place. I've seen that McNabb before, though, and I doubt it's going to be the last time.
The Eagles keep saying "we have this cap room, we'll get more help and be back next year." I've heard this before, after the first time they lost the NFC championship, they talked about "all this cap room". You know what? I'm starting to think the Eagles front office is very relunctant to spend a lot of cash as long as the team is winning, even if they keep falling short. We've heard this for the last 4 years. The Eagles always have a lot of cap room. When are they actually going to spend it?
The answer is, they're not. At least, I don't think they will. If they were, they would have by now. Also, how many Eagles are up for new contracts? I know of one who probably won't want to work for league minimum again (Trotter).
As for the Patriots, they did a hell of a job stopping that run. McNabb didn't pass for the 4th most in SB history because he had a good day and his receivers were doing great, it's because they had no other option but to pass. Only 45 yards rushing on 17 attempts (2.6 ypc, half of what the Eagles normally produce).
But all in all, I have to say I was disappointed in how the game played out at the end. At the end of regular season games, I oftan think to myself "It seemed like both teams were trying to lose that one.". I've never thought that at the end of a Super Bowl until now. With The Eagles time management (or lack thereof) and the Patriots questionable play calling on defense (all man coverage....huh?) it just seemed like neither team really wanted it. As in really wanted it. They looked like two boxers in the 11th and 12th rounds of a close fight just trying to get to the end without getting hurt. Neither really went for the KO win, they were just content to let it get over and see what happens with the score.
And this is not the first time there has been criticism of time management at the end of an Eagles game. Everytime they lose a close one, their ability to manage the clock at the end of a game comes into question. It makes you wonder if Andy Reid practices the 2-minute drill at all. McNabb looked totally lost out there. They should have scored that TD with at least 3 1/2 minutes left, not less than 2. Just horrible.
But, on a personal note, I'm am so happy that the Eagles didn't win.....releif was the emotion I felt most after the game. :)

The halftime show made me a fan of McCartney when I wasn't before. It was real music, done well, and done right, it sounded good, he got the crowd involved, even if it was mostly the crowd gathered around the stage.. That was a true Rock show regardless of whether it was old Beatles material or not. Way better than any halftime show I can recall in my 23 years.
As for Cinci's offseason situation, Alexander is from Cincinnati, and Rudi Johnson has threatened to sit if Cinci franchises him.. Do I smell a deal involving those two in a dual sign and trade after both are franchised? Cinci doesnt want to pay Johnson the money he wants over the long term because he still hasn't truly established himself as a great back after only about 24 games worth of work. He also isn't as complete a back as Alexander.
And I think if that doesnt go through, I wouldnt be surprised to see Johnson elsewhere next season and being replaced by Chris Perry and Kenny Watson and a later round draft pick from a fairly deep draft at RB.. Sproles? He could be the next James Brooks.
One can only hope.. Cinci could probably deal Johnson for draft picks or a DT without too much trouble. a DT would be SWEET.

That was one hell of a boring game. Maybe the break between the champ games and the SB got my mind off of football, but I wasn't all that interested in the game. In fact, I fell asleep with 7 minutes to go. And I didn't turn a football-related show on until 6:32pm.
Unbelievably, McCartney was the highlight of the night.

I echo the Halftime Show lovers. I thought it was fantastic. The crowd went ballistic with applause.
Mad props to TO. One heck of an effort.
It sure looked like in the 4th quarter when they got down 10 they kind of gave in to either exhaustion or that happy to have competed feeling.
Funny thing is I think they could have won if McNabb hadn't overthrown to Bruschi and even then if they could have run the hurry up the game easily could have gone to overtime.
Congrats Patriots.

Umm, both long catches were shot over-the-middle jobs that he broke free (in one case thanks to a missed illegal pick). His YAC was pretty high, but every catch was within about 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. Don't get me wrong, I thought he played a whale of a game as a short-yardage possession receiver, but they ended up using Greg Lewis in Owens' typical stretch-the-defense role.

Hell, I hate the friggin Beatles & even I thought the halftime show was tolerable at the very least. Unlike every halftime show since Up With People, this one didn't feel as though it lasted forever. They kept the tempo up, the set change/scene change time was minimal, a good production piece IMO even if I'm not wild about the artist or the music.

Patrick Pass-->UGA
Jabari Davis-->UT
Terrell Jordan-->Northwestern
Thomas Brown-->UGA
Vince Griffin (1994 Tucker grad) played at Middle Tennessee State.

Trying to remember, didn't he get up ran a little then when back down and gave himself up? Like didn't he simply lay down in order not to fumble the ball or something? Details are a bit fuzzy, I was kind of too happy about the pick :)

I felt the refs screwed up the flow in the first half. Those replays were completely unecessary had they got easy calls right the first time and really slowed the game down. The game felt disjointed and sluggish. Then the Eagles' apathy at the end of the game had my mind wandering. I forget where I read it, but a writer described the game as two teams that didn't want to lose and were happy just to play the game out and see what the final score was.
Mad props to your last observation though. This one's for my homies.

I think he did because I remember yelling for him to go down. There's nothing more nerve racking than an unnecessary INT runback in a close game.

Yeah, he ran a bit, then fell down to prevent the fumble. Then he got up and ran BACK. I'm just asking because I was just waiting for an Eagles player to strip the ball and run it back for a TD. :) I thought it was possible, and I just want to make sure that it was possible.

Well it wasn't "dramatic" by any shape but I thought the matchups and the chess match on the field was facinating. It was certainly more of a cerebrial matchup with the blitzing and cadence and the varying strategies each team tried. That entertained at least me.
It was a weird flowing game that went in spurts due to penatly and frankly very good defense. The defensees were by far the more spirited units on both sides so maybe that took away some of the drama.
I also found the Fox broadcast to be pretty anticeptic and generic. Maybe it's who they had in the booth. I mean they barely recognized the Eagles taking their sweet time towards the end at all.

An offensive player can give himself up and go down on a knee and have the play end, which is what the refs could have ruled in this case.

But this shit has to stop at 3 titles. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif
It makes it 1000 times worse that this could have been the Jets. Chances are Jet luck would have struck Belichick, but what if it didn't.
