For those who haven't been paying attention, it looks like I've volunteered to run the FOFC Cup this season!

A few questions for y'all about the way it's going to go, I appreciate any and all input. Thanks in advance.../tk

1. How many teams should be in? Last season it appears we had 30 (ish), whereas in previous season we've had 60 (ish). Also, what size should the groups be?

2. What week should it start in?

3. Any improvements on previous cups you'd like to see or things removed?

I will check back here at 1400 ET Friday (2000 Friday HT-time) to get all the responses, conglomerate them, and then post the official rules sometime before US Matches on Sunday evening (early Monday morning HT-time).

The rules that are fixed and likely not subject to change:

a) Seeding will be based on FOFC Rankings for the week prior to the cup's start. Therefore, you MUST be on the Officialish FOFC list prior to being eligible to join in the fun.

b) Group play will be used with cup rules OFF. In the elimination round, cup rules will be ON.

c) Winner for each group will automatically advance to the elimination round; other teams for the elimination round will be determined by (in descending order of importance):
-total points
-head to head
-goal differential
-total goals scored
-original seeding

d) Matches MUST be scheduled (i.e. challenge proffered AND challenge accepted) prior to 12:01 AM Monday HT-time (i.e. 59 minutes before US matches start on Sunday evening). Failure to do so will result in the offending team notching a 2-0 loss. Challenges & acceptances MUST be announced in the appropriate thread in this forum.

if you want a copy of the excel file I used, feel free to PM your e-mail and I will drop you a copy. The version I used for the last cup really automates things, you only need to type in a minimal amount of info.

I believe we haven't had much of a turnout lately because our teams are getting better, and lasting longer in the cup now.

Speaketh the man who lost in the second round :)

I don't have a problem with approach we've had in the past, can't think of how I would like it different--It's just fine accepting as many as we can that we can slot in.

Well the real jist of it is, the more teams we have, the longer the cup will likely run.
If we have, say, 30 teams, group play brings out 6 plus probably another 10. Then it's 4 weeks of elimination to decide an overall winner. If each group has 5 teams, that's another 4 weeks...i.e. we'd have to start in week 7.

Just food for thought.

I like groups of 5 myself, it allows everybody to have 2 home and 2 away games...
