I know there are quite a few techies around here and I have been having some odd issues with sending mail via SMTP in the past week and a half. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this recently and what they did about it.

I have had three different users, all in different offices all using different ISPS's. I have run through all the normal trouble shooting (virus, adware, windows updates, etc, lengthening the timeout time, turning off a/v on outgoing ) and am not having any luck. about the only commonality is all 3 have their own domains and are using them for pop3 mail (2 on Microsoft BCentral and 1 on SBC web hosting)

Basically all of these people can receive e-mail on their pop3 servers but get this error when trying to send:

Task 'pop3.yrcoach.com - Sending' reported error
(0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was
interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your
server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

what makes this so difficult is how inconsistent it is. One user has the problem with his laptop on his home DSL network, but not in the office. Another in a different office has trouble at the office, but not at home.

None of what MS suggest is much help

I know SBC had closed port 25, but I am not sure this explains it as, some issues in one location are having this problem, but others are not. and at least two of the users don't have SBC.

If SBC Yahoo is your main Net provider, it "filters" all mail coming into port 25. Theirs is routed fine, but they restrict everyone else's from that port. The option that SBC gives for changing to port 587 does not work.

You will need to check with your provider to allow you to have unfiltered access to port 25 so your business and other emails can be sent out from your account.

I finally had to report an abuse of service request for port 25 from SBCYahoo to themselves to get my SMTP mail to go out from all locations besides sbc yahoo. They removed the filter less than 24 hours later. Your ISP may have other options available for you, but I have heard that Earthlink ignores all port 25 unfiltered requests as spam mailers abuse that port and some ISP's will not allow you the opportunity to get SMTP mail unfiltered out of port 25.

You may want to do some Googling for your ISP carrier and port 25 filtering. That is how I found my instructions to get it changed for sbcyahoo.

Hope this helps.

thanks - I haven't tried it yet - but why is it that chaing the port to 587 doesn't work?

SBC Yahoo says it is an alternative port to use, but it never worked for me and others as I surfed the Net on researching it.
