Free Photo Software to Convert BMP to JPG or GIF automatically?

In photoshop there is a way to set up instructions so that if you want to convert all the photos in one folder, you can just set it up and it will do it on its own. Are there any free programs that can to this so that I don't have to individually resave every photo as a GIF or JPG?
