AIM Troubleshooting

I've got a non-computer type person I'm trying to help remotely with AIM. Everytime they get an IM, when they reply the entire program crashes and closes. They tried to reinstall. Any ideas?

Most likely they have a lot of spyware-type things on the computer.

<i>Edit: Or, it is a really old computer. If possible, try getting an older version of AIM.</i>
