what's even more amazing is he got two other commissioners to go along with his asshatted (no pun intended) move.

I'm curious as to why the guy didn't take his hat off.

Well, if you have dealt with county commisioners, you wouldn't be surprised. They all are basically power-hungry asshats that love any opportunity to flaunt their power.

I imagine he took it as a joke, and who would have thought anyone could be that big a jerk? Of course, the lesson here is never underestimate how big a jerk some people can be (especially someone with power).

If I'm wearing a hat like that, it comes off immediately when I go indoors. I wonder if he had a reason.

Maybe he was going bald

or his head was cold.

BTW, I personally rarely take my hat off indoors, but I would have in the given situation as a sign of respect. But respect should be earned, not demanded, and that politician acted like a three year old.

Did I understand that clip correctly? When the pompous airbag commissioner voted to reduce the Parks Dept. budget by $35,000 effective immediately, was he in fact effectively firing that kid (or eliminating the position he was applying for)?

Regardless, the man is a major-league fucktard.

That's how I understood it as well. His first motion to fire the guy on the spot didn't pass with a 3 to 2 vote. He then goes into asshole overdrive and makes a motion to reduce the Parks Dept. budget by $35K, which strangely passes 3 to 2. All I can figure is that the guy who changed his vote had seen this peckerhead do something like this before, and did it so the guy wouldn't keep making motion after motion until he got his way.

Everyone seems to be ignoring his comrade-in-arms. "No? Well, maybe you should look for another job then." That was said in a different voice, at the same time that Mr.-She's-A-County-Commissioner was making his first motion. I'm assuming it was the other guy who voted with him in the first vote.

Where did you come across this clip? Hopefully there is a movement afoot in this locale to expose this jackass for what he is...

Either that, or he has no 'nads whatsoever if he caved that quickly. :p

came across it on TotalFark. Not sure what jurisdiction it is from. All I know is that if I were eligible to run against him, the clip would be all of the campaigning I would need to do :D

You're right - they're both jackassed-fucktards. However, jackass #1 gets special attention for being the one to initiate the motions...

I can answer this as I often wear those kinds of hats. I take it it was cold outside as that is only time to wear those and not be an idiot, however after they are put on and then taken off they leave your hair a COMPLETE mess. And I don't mean in a regular hat way, in a you take it off you better hit the damn shower or not go anywhere important way. Thats why I'm the same as him, once it goes on, it stays in untill I get home, no matter where I go.

Unbelieveable. I would had told him to cram that job right up his ass.

They would have had to restrain me.

The statement he made, about the guy being former AF and he asks that he take his cover off inside made me burn even more.

I would move to the city this guy is at, just to take his damn seat away from him.

I found it. It's Frederick County, Maryland. Here's a link:

And in case anyone is fired up about this, here's Mr. Cady's county commissioner email (from the Frederick County Website that's linked)

What a royal jerk!

Update from the Washington Times

A Frederick County commissioner yesterday apologized to county residents for penalizing the county parks department $35,000 because one of its employees wouldn't remove his hat.
Michael L. Cady also led the Board of County Commissioners in voting to restore the money it had deleted from the agency's budget last week, intending that the groundskeeper be fired.
The amount approximated the worker's wages and benefits.
Mr. Cady, 61, an Olympic weightlifting coach and former Marine, said yesterday that he had overreacted during the meeting Thursday.
The newly hired worker, Westley B. Etters, had come to that session to be introduced to the commissioners, a county custom. Mr. Cady said he became irritated when Mr. Etters kept his head covered during the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mr. Etters was then introduced to the board, and Mr. Cady suggested he remove his knit hat.
Mr. Etters refused, pointing out that Commissioner Jan H. Gardner also was wearing a hat -- a St. Patrick's Day gag gift from Mr. Cady -- and asked whether county commissioners had special privileges.
Mr. Cady said yesterday that Mr. Etters' "defiant" response "went through me like a knife, and I responded from emotion."
Mr. Cady said he had received many messages from the public about the incident.
"What I have learned," he said, "is that people expect far more from me, an elected official, than from an employee, and they are right."
He apologized to residents but not to Mr. Etters, "as his behavior was disrespectful and defiant."
Mr. Etters didn't return calls to his home and workplace yesterday. He still works for the parks department, agency head Paul Dial said.
The vote to restore the funds was 4-1, with board President John L. Thompson dissenting.
Mr. Thompson, who had sided with the three-member majority on Thursday, said he voted against restoring the funds because he wanted to "wait until related personnel matters were resolved."
Mr. Cady moved to delete the funds last week after his motion to fire Mr. Etters for insubordination was defeated.
An assistant county attorney, Linda Thall, told the Frederick News-Post on Friday that the commissioners lacked the authority to fire Mr. Etters because he doesn't report directly to them.

Wow. Mr. Cady was also involved in the flap over a school broadcasting the Pledge in Spanish recently.
