Seriously, this was probably the greatest network when I was a kid. Now I watch it, and the shows are horrible. I don't think its the years, because I can pop in a tape of Hey, Dude and be set for the day. Now, there's crap starring Lil Romeo. I mean, is this really the same network that gave us the greats like:
Rocco's Modern Life - A classic
Ren and Stimpy - Brilliant
Salute Your Shorts - A very underrated great show
Hey, Dude - Melody was hot
Wild and Crazy Kids - Starring Cuba Gooding Jr's brother Omar (later of Playmakers)
The Adventures of Pete and Pete - A very good series
The Legends of the Hidden Temple - One of the greatest game shows ever.
Double Dare - Mark Summers is a God.
Clarissa Explains it All - Giving us Melissa Joan Hart
Doug - Another great show.
Are You Afraid of the Dark - It was like goosebumps before goosebumps
David the Gnome - Swift kicked fuckin ass
Nickelodeon Arcade - That show rocked.
The Tomorrow People - A really great show.
All That - Great for about 2 years.
Roundhouse - Awesome show
Those were all shows that occurred over a 3-5 year span.
The only worthwile shows from the past 5 years are the Angry Beavers and Invader Zim... what happened.

yeah, but I can still watch the old shows, and they hold up as good television. There was good writing, and the stories actually had a point. Now its just about trying to be cool.

Bananaman! I used to sit through "Pinwheel" just to catch an episode of Bananaman. I believe they used to show Underdog reruns on the same show, which was also awesome.

I love threads like these. I was also in love with the Alex Mack girl. I watched that one teen movie (10 Things I Hate About You?) because she was in it. I think Julia Stiles was too though...
Rocco's Modern Life and Angry Beavers were good. I hate some of these new shows, though. I don't see why kids would like them. Spongebob is fairly decent... the potty mouth episode was awesome.
I'm going to try and watch Saturday morning cartoons one weekend during the summer and comparing it to when I was a kid. I still remmeber waking up at 7am to watch Sonic the Hedgehog. :)

Double Dare - Mark Summers is a God.
I never thought about Double Dare the same way after finding out Summers had MAJOR obsessive compulsive disorder.

It's called nostalgia ;).
I can watch those shows too, but if they just came out today, I'd probably consider most of them stupid (well except "Ren and Stimpy" which is silly comedy at its finest). I used to love "Doug", but if it was a new show today, I'd consider it crap.

I pass by Nick all the time and wonder how it changed so much. But I think it is more about the modern kid and what appeals to them. I do think its a lot more commercial than it used to be, about stars, fawning over people and all that. But I think that's the generational gap, if you can call it that.

Doug was cool because when it came out, I was young enough that I could relate to half the crap that happened to him. The on-again/off-again with Patti, for example.
But yeah, put 15 years between then and now, it doesn't resonate quite so well anymore.

I was majorly ticked off when Hey Dude got cancelled. It filmed in Tucson, and they hired me for a few episodes as a featured extra. That was the neatest group of actors, crew, and director/producers that I worked with in Tucson.

"Legends of the Hidden Temple?" My daughter still watches it on GAC, or whatever it is called. Nick has hired some of the worst gameshow hosts in history. Some of those old game shows are really hard to watch because of how bad the host are.

He is now hosting a show on the Food Network, I think it's called Unwrapped, but not 100% sure...they go around the country to food companies to see how different foods are made. The last one I watched was all about pastas and they went to the Spaghettio's factory...it's a cool show, we watch it every now and then.

He's never really been the same since his show was cancelled. He tried to branch out into more adult roles, but last I'd seen him he was starring in some of those animated adult cartoons that run late night on Showtime.
Poor Doug has fallen quite a bit.

Legends of the Hidden Temple was awesome. I always love the end-challenge. I always enjoyed Inspector Gadget back in the day too. Alex Mack was hot. What happen to Melissa Joan Hart? I know she did her Sabrina series, which ended a few years ago, but she really hasn't been around after that.

This thread started because I was trying to see what old Nick shows are on DVD. Turns out they are about to release the first season of Clarissa, as a kind of retro Nick or something like that. Not sure if they'd said what shows though.

Good news Easy Mac, The Tomorrow People is being released (Season 1 and 2) on DVD in the US around May 10th. I only saw one or two episodes of it on PBS, but was always intrigued by it. Don't know if I'm intrigued enough to buy a DVD of it, but I'll surely take a look at it when it comes out.
