I just bought a Nintendo DS and am thinking it's really not for me (I just don't have time for video games, really).

EB's receipt says I can't return it -- will going to the store and talking to them make any difference or am I absolutely stuck?

If I am stuck, anybody want to buy it from me for a discounted price? I've had it for like 3 days.

Thanks,
~rpi-fan

If you've opened it up, I don't think you can return it. You may be able to trade it in... but if you don't have times for video games, I'm not sure that'll work.

Trade it in for gift cards and give them out as gifts. Basically same cash position when everything is said and done.

I've opened all the packages (rather stupidly) and the receipt says, as far as I can tell, that their policy is no returns for anything, especially if it's open (though even unopened things can only be switched for the same item).

Am I misunderstanding their policy, or is this really a flexible thing?

I see. I always thought that the policy was no refunds, but store credit, but this might cause wide spread piracy with someone who keeps on opening and returning.

Its a shame because what if something legitimately doesn't work on someone's system because of hardware conflicts. I'd give it a shot. Tell them that you'll take store credit, and if not, you'll be forced to sell it back to them as "used" (Maybe they'll throw you some leway since its in mint condition.)

If it's opened they won't take it back. That is how they handle software, not sure about hardware though. They were not flexible with me.

Thanks for the responses, guys -- I'm looking into just selling it privately, but if that doesn't work out I'll plan on going back and getting "used" status for it.

More importantly, next time, I'll think a little harder before I buy!

If I had a job instead of still looking for one, I'd be all over this. Unfortunately, situations are as they are. :(

Regardless of 'store policy' whats the legal situation in America for this? - generally in the UK regardless of 'policy' you can get a refund on anything under statutory rights ... but you have to stand your ground (at the very least you should be able to get store credit over here).

I called up my local wal-mart.. they do sell nintedo ds's. (at least at the super center ones)

I told them it was a gift and was opened.. they said they'd give store credit for the amount it was currently selling for at walmart

If you don't like to lie, could always say you lost the receipt.. :)

Sell it on ebay.. you'll get close to what you paid for it.
