View Full Version : When PIC can hurt you....

Last night I played the worst team in my series....so I pic'd the match. I'm guessing the new owner had begun upgrading the team starting with his keeper, because I only managed 4 goals and 6 chances total (I beat the same team using PIC 8-1 earlier in the season, on the road). Lucky for me, last night was the night that the auto quallies from D-V to D-IV dropped 1 point to put me at 'near' auto-qualification level. However, by strategically using the PIC last night and only scoring 4 goals, it made me the 3rd team below the auto qualification line. Had I played normal I likely would have scored 2x as many goals against them which would have had me 2 places higher in the qualification chart. Now comes the difficult part of my schedule....I'm playing the team that is next to last in the league (namely due to offensive ineptness..they've scored 5 goals while given up 10), and the second place team whom has given up 5 goals on the season. Ideally I get past them both with wins, and I score a decent amount while shutting them out. However I think it's more likely that I'll win one and draw the other, at which point...using a PIC strategy this past league sunday may have hurt my chances at auto promotion....irony is fun.

But just think, if you're not good enough to win the qualification match you don't really want to go into that series anyway, right?

or, think that with 2 weeks left, being 3 spots back you are bound to move up all three and then some if you take care of business and win out.

I'm not worried about it....I just find such irony in the situation...kinda like my friendly this past week where my opponent had the worst midfield I've ever seen but was higher rated at scoring and defending than me...and I won 4-0

I spent an extra 3 seasons in D.V due to poor TS management one season, wanted to win the GD/top scorers race (I was young!) so played normal in quite a few matches to win 9-0 instead of 6-0, still wanted the qualli and ended up losing (through wussiness), think I would've won with 70% possession instead of 61% though.
