The unit itself is really a box. The grey stand makes it looked slanted.

Here's the interesting part:
From someone who attended:
Revolution will let you download full games, including from NES to Gamecube. goodbye 80 dollar FF3 on Ebay, hellloooooooo every classic I've either lost or neglected to pick up. spectacular freaking news, giving this system access to litterally thousands of games. Price is still TBD. Hard drive to come.

Thats pretty brilliant actually, as long as its reasonably priced. I take it that it means no backwards compatability now?

I don't think Nintendo has ever made a backwards compatible console.

It's gonna be a bust. Another indication that 40 time isn't indicative of football talent.

I think that's the coolest looking console I've ever seen and the size is perfect. I wonder how they will fit a HD or if it will be external.

What what I've read the Revolution isn't going to anywhere near as powerfull as the X-Box 360 or PS3. Nintendo went as far as to say it will be about 2 or 3 times more powerfull than the Gamecube, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 are nearly 12 times as powerfull as thier predecessors. Who knows, maybe this gimmick of being able to download past games will help it overcome the lack of power, however in todays market I see it as suicide.

Yeah Sony and MS set the bar pretty damn high hardwarewise. Nintendo is hinting they are betting on something else that they are not going to unveil at this time.

not necessarily. Maybe they just arent over-hyping the specifications like Ms and Sony are. It would suprise me if the specs don't shrink on both the Xbox and the PS3

If they continue to keep the price far lower than the competition and if they have a large selection of games they will still sell well.

If they continue to keep the price far lower than the competition and if they have Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Pokemon they will still sell well.

A series of tiny little ads, placed in thousands of newspapers?

The downloading games thing is awesome as long as the price is reasonable. I think I spent as nearly much time playing emulators on my XBOX as I did playing XBOX games.

I haven't watched the Nintendo presentation yet so I'll just comment on what I see here and impressions so far.

I remember when the previous generations came out, the polygon figures thrown around were never even come close to in games. Nintendo actually has a track record for playing it safe with claims about how well their stuff runs. For instance, they claimed something like 10' for the Wavebird but IGN played it 60' away just fine or that the SP battery life actually was longer than stated not less like the PSP. They never quite have grasped the concept of hype.

I love this idea- make emulation attainable for people who don't know how to set one up. Erica's already expressed interest in this and she's the type of gamer I guess they're going after.
I dunno, I still feel that this is a pretty scary time for Nintendo and I'm not sure they can find their ass with two hands and a flashlight right now. What I wouldn't give to have Nintendo be able to kidnap Microsoft's marketing department.

SI: I think thats a good thing. If they say this console will run 2-3 times faster then the old one, you can bet that it will probably perform that well. I only own a ps2, but thats only because I've never been able to afford more than one Console, and I do most of my gaming on the PC. But If I bought a second console, it would probably be a gamecube, just for all of the ninetendo only titles :)

Airhog, I also only have one console ...
... but it's an NES. :)
I'll consider buying the Revolution just to play the entire series of Zelda games.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I compliment them on their honesty. But it's a disadvantage when applied to the general gaming public. The average gamer is going to take away that the real battle next generation is between the PS3 and X360 while the Revolution is already an afterthought because "it's only 2-3 times as powerful as the Gamecube which was already underpowered". It's the same think they were saying four years ago despite the fact that almost every game made for both the PS2 and Gamecube looked better on the Gamecube.
