How does this change things? I dont think it changes things at all. People who want to belive it will, and those that believe it is impossible will remain unconvinced. Discuss.

I'm pretty sure our opinions won't matter one bit, since we'll all be slave laborers for our new alien overlords.

well, we're going to be in for quite a shock, because "life" isn't going to be some bipedal humanoid like the Close Encounters aliens - it's going to be something we don't even have the capability to imagine right now.

and yeah, we'll probably try to kill it or enslave it.

Much to like about this post:

1. Lots and lots
2. DEEP
3. Good contrasting terminology (i.e., "paradise" vs. "nightmare")
4. Member since Nov2000, and feels passionate enough about this to add to his post total (90).

It will be a huge discovery for scientists, but the vast majority of people in the world won't care, because the lifeforms will be microscopic.

Many believe that the real 'space exploration/colonization occurs after the Return of Christ who sets up His Kingdom on Earth as kind of a 'Galactic HQ' for the rest of the universe. Bible talks about the faithful as becoming 'rulers' and 'judges' that many interpret as meaning of an expanding presence to come later. If this is true, then the Irony of course is that those making huge profits off of their 'vision' of the future concerning space are really just co-opting much of what the Bible says will really happen and in many cases then using that same faulty 'vision' to discredit the very source they 'steal' or 'borrow' from.

BTW, these are meant to be simply personal observations and alternative ideas on a subject that I never see put forth, so that is all that I'm doing. Not meant to be 'pushing' anything or preaching. But some will doubtless see it that way. That be their problem, not mine.

Nah. He'd have to be more like Jean-Luc Picard.

I guess the Devil is the Borg.

With Special Guest Star Judas the Romulan!

I sense a ratings blockbuster...

You may be closer to the truth than you realize. Bible says there is no new thing under the sun...what is considered 'original' is always ancient ideas in new packaging. Let's talk Star Trek for a minute.

In the book "The Making of Star Trek" Roddenberry's idea was a futuristic "Wagon Train" set amongst the stars...Hence the name Star Trek. Get it? The idea was that westerns (dominate in the 50s and 60s on TV) were all actually "Morality Plays" that pitted...Good vs. Evil. Pretty self-explanitory where those ideas originate, right?

Interestingly, the name 'Kirk' is German for Church. "Kirk in the Hills" is actually the name of a church in Bloomfield Hills near Cranberry Institute. Whose stealing ideas from whom?

See how you sort of put something out there, softened it a bit and weren't so quick to engage in a war of words? Thats a much better way of discussing things than your usual method. I give it a thumbs up.

QuikSand

One view would be that concepts such as "Good versus Evil" spring from the Bible, and anyone else using them as a foundation for creative works is just borrowing.

Another view would be that such ideas are so obvious and universal, that they are an essential part of human culture -- and they completely permeate the folklore, mythology, and expression of every generation of humanity, going back long before the birth of modern Christianity.

To each his own, I guess.
