View Full Version : Dynamic2 down?

Anyone else not able to get here through the normal Dynamic2 means? When I try I get:
403 Access Denied
Retrieval of that file is forbidden.
I had to manually switch to dynamic3 to get here.

There were a few of us on the alternate board that couldn't get through on the bookmarked 2. And now my bookmarked Dynamic2 reroutes me to Dynamic numberless. Odd.

this is weird, I tried dynamic2 to dynamic6 and always got the same error message, then tried dynamic without a number and got through...

yeah, my login cookies are dynamic2 and it's redirecting me to dynamic and dynamic won't set a cookie to keep me logged in.

Sounds like they might have put the servers into a load balanced server farm (can't wait to see what you guys do with that). Basically, they have a group of servers with load balancing software. As connections come in the software hits the server with the least connections or that is the least busy (not sure which). This balances the load so that one server isn't doing all the work (dynamic2)while others sit idle. So, they probably still have dynamic 1-6, but we can no longer control which server we hit. This means we no longer have control over the time stamp bug by forcibly going to dynamic2.
I'm assuming we'll continue to have the timestamp bug until Ryan screams at them to check the clock on their servers, if he hasn't already.

.Hi Dynamic Site Users,
We have been working to improve our dynamic server performance over the last several months. As many of you may be aware, we now have a clustered and load-balanced server farm supporting your dynamic sites - we no longer are setup with standalone servers.
Yesterday we made a change in the way we handle dynamic paths. DynamicX(2 through 6).gamespy.com now permanently redirect to dynamic.gamespy.com. This may have affected the functionality of your PHP scripts, if you have utilized hardcoded paths.
We have run a scan and replace for dynamicX.gamespy.com to dynamic.gamespy.com to correct such problems. We also would like you to manually check your code and utilize dynamic.gamespy.com in future coding.

I cannot believe this issue hasn't been fixed already. I'm sure Ryan has already screamed at them about it, and it boggles my mind they wouldn't have their servers all set up to ensure consistent clock settings.

And, of course, now they've gone and guaranteed we can't all get on the same server, pretty much killing thread continuity.
Can we reopen the new board discussion again?

The dynamic servers have been load balanced since last year, so this move should make no difference to us. It may mean you need to log in again if you don't have cookies for dynamic.gamespy.com.
When I asked about times, I got the following reply.
"Are you still experiencing issues with the server time? I would imagine this would stop now that everthing is redirected to dynamic1."
I think I have got the dumb support person. Looks like an email to someone higher up is required.

My Firefox kept logging me out because the cookie was set to dynamic2.
I copied the current url and put it into the cookies exceptions (because I block all cookies unless excepted). Now it logs me in automatically.
I also changed my bookmark to reflect the dynamic without the "2".

And your response to this was "No, I'm making this up for shits and giggles. Yes you moron, it's still happening - otherwise I wouldn't have brought it up."
Can we please pursue this to resolution - the timestamp bug is really fucking annoying, even moreso due to the fact that it should be a fairly simple fix on their end.

On Firefox -- no problems if I go to dynamic, but if I use my dynamic2 bookmark I get logged out. It sounds like as long as you change your bookmark to dynamic you're fine.
GameSpy obviously uses all the dynamic servers for other forums; they must have timestamp problems too, you would think.

They do, but most of the other boards use PHP board which allows you to order posts by post number rather than time, so it is not as obvious on those boards.

Dynamic2 ain't coming back, SI... Well, if that's the case, then can we fix the email notifications. Right now, every email has something like this:
<tt>This thread is located at:
http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?t=39353&goto=newpost (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/showthread.php?t=39353&goto=newpost)</tt>
Which leads to having to log in every single time (since it's dynamic2 which defaults back to dynamic because dynamic2 isn't there). And this isn't an issue that can be fixed by simple "saving the password" because it's redirecting every time. So is there a way to get those email notifications pointing to dynamic instead of dynamic2?
