Anybody care to fess up to a first round cupset?
Or, to poke fun at somebody who may have had one (maybe a non-FOFC series mate)?

Looking at the supporter stats for round 1, it looks as though there were at least a handful of cupsets.

One team in my series (V.104) lost, Suns23498. They lost 1-0 to a VI team, losing HS 91-82. Another in my series had to go to PK's, but he eventually won.

the 6th place team in my V.65 series lost to a bot. they almost lost to a really shitty VI team in their quali but finally took it on extra PKs.

Umm...ya. I got the shaft in mine. Now granted...for some reason I got mixed up and thought I thought I could get away with playing my backups and save my starters for my league game which I totally blew since next Sunday's game kicks off a new week anyway.

So yeah...I lost to a bot team 4-3 on penalties. I normally play a 3-5-2 but wanted to gain experience in a 4-5-1 for my later round games and it cost me with a putrid attack rating. I still hat a better HatStat rating 94-71 and had the possession advantage but it still didn't amount to anything.

If you want to view the putrid display then here it is: MatchID: 40136487

Hey, out of curiousity, MV, why did you press?

Bummer on the game, but I plan on making an early exit, so once I do, I'll do a friendly with you if ya like. :)

/tkLast year when I got to the 2nd round I took on a Div 4 team and since I could field an entire crew of "Powerful" IM's and Wingers and had great overall stamina...I thought that was the best chance to try and pull an upset. So this year I wanted to gain experience in both a defensive formation and the Pressing tactic in the early rounds so my team would be better when the tougher opponents came my way.

And yes...let's do that friendly when you bow out. Just keep me updated.

And why was I thinking that when you play a bot team in the Cup you get a walkover? Isn't that how it is in league play?

fyi, you dont have to gain experience for pressing. its calculated on stanima and defending of the players in the match. there is no "skill" to learn or increase.

Am I reading HAM wrong then? When looking at the match report it gives you a rating (poor...weak..inad...etc) listed under that particular strategy (AIM...AOW...Pressing). Is that just a total skill rating for that tactic instead of being an experience rating?

that rating is based on the stanima and defense of your players. but skill is not a skill that is increased by playing it more often, it is 100% based on the stats of the guys you have playing. if you played the same guys with the same skills a million times in a row and pressed, your pressing skill would not change.

I think my series had 3 teams lose in the cup, one even lost 8-0. Out of the 5 of us that won, the average score was 8-0 with one guy winning 2-1.

I was cupset 5-4... Basically, I SHOULD have still won. The problem was, I sold off 2/3's of my old midfield, and was in the process of buying new guys. I had crappy b-teamers in my lineup in case i forgot to go back and put in the new players (which I did)... I ended up losing possesion 52-48, and even though my attacks were WAY better than any rating the other team had, I still got hosed. I'm really mad, but whatever. I did screw up, but I guess I'm a little bitter I still should have won.

Oh well, I dont totally care. I spent 7 million this week to improve my team. In 2 weeks I sell a titanic forward... maybe my cup loss can inspire me for a league run (even though i just promoted to a really tough IV league)

Happened to me this week, losing 5-3 to a D.VI team. I PIC'd this match, but what hurt me was I somehow accidently set one of my IM trainees to extra central defender instead of offensive. At least it wasn't my Brasil U-20 candidate that I did it to, though I'm probably more upset that my 17 year old solid playmaker won't get training moreso than that I lost.

I played a D V guy who had a better team than me but I got lucky and beat him 2-1 at home....had a shutout going till the 78th minute.

My cup streak will be ending this week as I come up against a TOUGH D III team. Oh well, the Hellraisers have never won a Cup game and made it to Round 3 which we'll consider (as will the Supporters) a rousing success!

Lots of extra cash in the bank to upgrade the team with, happy Supporters and the bump for Cup training are all things to be excited about!

MikeVick7, I'm ready to play you. Feel free to challenge me, your place or mine.

Everybody else can read my PA and then read the match report.

Another WTF game for RTFC.

Stupid home team advantage. I mean, I know that 163-156 suggests close.
And stars are evil but 43 for me vs. 32 for him?

And my ratings were lower than I expected, his were higher. All of which I can only blame on home field advantage. GRRRRRR.

Some D V team with a bunch of studs and the desire to MOTS just dumped me on my ass. I'll be hosting a team from the Vietnamese first division next week....grumble...
