How is everyone playing so fast? I have yet to download all the patches and I have been downloading since 6:00 P.M. yesterday. Is there a faster way?

I just followed the link, went to a site and downloaded the updater and then ran it..downloaded everything for me. Took maybe 2 hours or so? Not sure I had to leave for a while, but shouldn't take all night for sure.

I restarted as a Controller as that's what I was interested in to begin with. So I'll be going by The Bee's Knees from now on. Just got my first ass kicking also, very shortly after leaving the tutorial also. Went to talk to some girl about Zombies and went through the wrong alleyway. Ran into a group of thugs accosting some women and thought I'd help out...not a good idea. Then of course ran from them into another group of thugs 4-5 levels higher than me, from them into another...etc.

Love the character creator though, best one around for sure.

Hmm, I consider myself a pretty jaded MMORPG'er anymore. I hate the genre, but I can't help but play them.

That said, I've only played through the tutorial, wandered a bit, and did the first mission to rock some Zombies and I'm loving it. The combat is definitely the most interesting out of any MMORPG I've tried. It's fun fighting 2-3 mobs at one time, trying to manage all of them. The game does a great job of making you feel like a badass right from the start which most of these games lack. I didn't have to go out and slay rats for hours on end. I actually have some pretty sweet powers from the get go. I love using Levitate to start things off, then mesmerizing the 2nd guy, and throwing in a Gale wind blast if one gets to close. If these are the starting powers, there's got to be some REAL cool ones later in the game.

My interest probably won't last beyond the 14 day trial but so far I'm having fun. I can see it getting a bit repetitive as do all the MMORPG's, so we'll see how she holds up.

I also might be enjoying it more because it's the first I didn't real read up on before starting. I'm usually pretty in depth about powergaming and all that goodness with these games, it's a nasty habit. Now I don't care, I'm just focusing on the stuff I think looks cool as hell. ;)

Ok, The Bee's Knees is off to figure out what's causing these zombies.

Btw, when you add an enhancement to a power, couple questions. Do your powers ever get more than one slot for an enhancement? Is the only way to remove the enhancement to trash it?

Calis: when you reach the third level you get 2 slots, you can add those to your stuff. The only way to change enhancements is too destroy the one you had before. Not a big deal once you figure out what goes here. You can also add 3 enchantments of the same type into 1 and that gives you a bonus, which is the best you can do .

How the hell do you jump or fly?

To jump or fly, you need to get to (at least level 14). There are other power pools other than your main two that you can get them. Leaping is to get superjump (ala Hulk) and Flying (big surprise) is for flying.

You can also get the Fitness power pool to jump slightly higher with the Jump power. While it sounds stupid, you need it to get Stamina, which is key to endurance use.

That way you don't have to go out and purchase the box.

I believe I am level 12 right now, but I was thinking of creating a new character because I feel I made some bad choices while training, but I hate to give up the progress I have made, as well as the generous amounts of money I have been given by some people I teamed with.

This is the first time playing an MMORPG where I've really enjoyed my first character past the first day of playing. I'm having a blast with this guy and haven't even looked at any of the other classes yet.

I picked Weather as my secondary skill though and I'm not sure I like that much. So far I've only been using the Mind line of skills, but those are great. Wish I had some sorta shield though, I get hit hard.

White Napalm and I teamed up against some very tough and infuriating Protectors tonight. After that, we switched to alts to do a quick mission with Private Psycho and Silver Swordman. We were successful in the mission, but because I was slacking everyone died but me. It has been a very long time since I played my fire tanker, Charbroiler...perhaps with some practice I can do a bit better. Sorry guys!

I appear to have a hit a point where solo play just doesn't hack it. Going through and doing my missions I've got a couple to do in The Hollows. I'm sitting at lvl 5 and had to kill 10 outcasts there, which I did...but it was ugly as hell.

Now I've got one to kill 10 Trolls there, and no one I'm accomplishing that solo. Think I'm in the wrong place though, everyone else I see there is level 10-11, not sure what happened.

I really don't want to just camp mobs to gain exp, hope there's missions for every lvl.

It is great to see so many new faces from here in the supergroup. I teamed with Marmel's new blaster on a train mission, a city block brimming with Circle of Thorns. He got a full level and only died once...good fun!

I think one of the main keys to enjoying CoH is planning out your character build in advance. You have to have a good idea of what powers to take when and how to slot them. At the official site there is a thread in each archetype forum listing guides for building pretty much any combination of offense and defense. For instance, the scrapper guide thread is...

Finally was able to get going on those missions in The Hollows last night thanks to kingfc22. We had a rough start, but once we started getting the hang of it we were kicking ass.

Well, except for the GETTING to the missions. Sheesh, it's rough getting to some of those dungeons, a lot harder than actually going through them. Especially with both of us not being able to take a shot for anything.

Love to get into a big FOFC group, I can't imagine what this is like in full groups.

I don't know why we would need to start over with a new sg...we could rearrange the ranks to make only mains GMs and stick with the original just as easy. As far as listing all our characters, perhaps someone :) should start a new thread and keep the first post updated with the current roster.

Also, I created a 2nd character tonight. Zorro II is now a Lvl. 4 scrapper.The global list is tied to the users overall chat handle. In global, you can see when that person is online with any of their characters on any of the servers. IOW, I can be logged into Virtue and if you were on Victory you would see me in the global section and could chat with me even though I'm on a different shard entirely.

Global is nice because even if you or your friends never leave the same server, you can see when they are logged into any of their characters and don't need to have them in the Friends section. Very handy if your friends like to change/create alts frequently :D

The server is single character names on that server only. This is handy for times when you join a great pickup group and you want to be able to easily find these folks again. Just pop 'em on your friends list and you can find them later. Usually, you never see them again but every once in a blue moon they turn out to be long-term discoveries.

I spent roughly an hour clearing out a typically annoying Circle of Thorns mission map last night. I rescued all the victims except the last one, which I could never find. I killed every villain I could locate but got my ass handed to me in short order when I ran into the AV. Rough.

Yeah the hollows is pretty scary. Even with my forcefield I often get hit with large amounts of damage. One time I went into a very bad place. I don't know what did it or how it happened but I got hit with 150 pts of damage. Ouch. Thankfully, I just got teleport friend so that should help my teammates out.

I am now level 10, and usually hang out doing missions in the Hollows. If anyone has an idea of how to finish the Circle of Thorns mission, please let me know.

The best advice I can give you about the hollows, is to stay out of the gulch. It is in the center of the map. You should be able to do fine there if you can stay out of that area...

Big thanks to Raiders Army/White Napalm for helping me get that fugly CoT mission out of the way. He/she recruited a bubble controller to aid us. We ran into the AV almost right away and had an epic 5min plus battle that could have gone either way...I thought we were doomed lol. After we dropped the bastard we finished off the mission with some difficulty...those earth mages turn the floor into lava, making it tough to close and melee them away.

Professor Ion is now 2 bubs into 39. Still having fun.
