View Full Version : Another new pc question dvd-rom 's

I wanted to get two drives for my new home computer. One CD-ROM/CDRW and a DVD-ROM/DVDRW. Have people had any problems with DVDROM/DVDRW drives such as breaking down more often than just a regular DVDROM drive. I don't need to make DVD but if I can get a DVD writer drive with the regular DVDROM drive that would be great.

I have not heard of any durability problems with DVD burners in general. I think it depends more on the quality of the drive than the type of drive.

haven't really heard of the DVD writers being any more prone to breakdowns. and they're so cheap right now it probably won't be a huge deal if it does.

you do know that your DVDRW will do everything the CDRW will do, right?

Holy shit I didn't know that. So, you mean if I geta dvdrom/dvdrw I can paly CDROMS and write cd's as well? So, I could watch a DVD and play MVP baseball 2005 on CDROM?

I have separate DVD/ROM and DVD R/RW drives on my computer. You can play regular CDs in the DVD-ROM. The DVD R/W will burn CDs (go to your computer store and read the front of the drive. It'll tell you the capabilities).

This setup allows you to copy DVDs, just as easy as CDs. You still can copy DVDs with the setup you're contemplating, but you have to setup buffer space on your HD. Direct copying is much easier and faster.

yep.
the only reason you'd really want two if for direct copying of CDs like Shaq describes.
