Regarding experience and playing in the Cup:

What actually changes: literally their experience or are my trainees scoring skill affected by the experience.

I know Cup games are double the experience of League matches but I'm confused about just what is trained or how this "experience" affects individual players stats.

Ok, what "changes" is their experience number.
What it affects is their performance:
for example, a formidable striker with wretched experience may get 3 stars
a formidable striker with passable experience may get 4 stars

(I don't have actual numbers in front of me, but that's the jist).
Plus, the more experienced your players are, the less likely you are to get inexperience events such as "Walter Mills acted like an inexperienced youth and gave up the ball. Luckily there was no goal."

I think the rule of thumb is that a player gains a half star at "weak" experience. I think the next one is quite a few levels beyond that. But that's just "evil" stars, of course.
