Whether he thinks he’s underpaid or not, Bengals Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson reiterated Wednesday what he has said all spring. He won’t hold out even though agent Drew Rosenhaus has gone on record saying he thinks his client is “sorely underpaid.”

“My agent doesn’t run me, I run myself. He works for me,” said Johnson after the voluntary practice. “If there was ever any type of holdout going on, it would be going on right now with all the others going on ... (No.) 85 ain’t going nowhere.

“I’m not sure,” said Johnson, when asked if he thinks he’s underpaid. “I would like everyone to look at the numbers and see for yourself and understand where I am and you make the assumption about whether I’m underpaid or not. Don’t leave it on me.”

Johnson, who got a $26 million extension through 2009 during the 2003 season, is second in yards and third in catches in the NFL the past two seasons.

“That’s Drew’s opinion. He has about nine, 10, 12, 15 guys all around the league. No big deal,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, referring to Rosenhaus’s list of clients that have held out this spring despite contracts. “He’s under contract for six years. What does Chad Johnson like to do? (Play football.) What’s he going to do if he doesn’t do it here?”

Bout time, the man is an inspiration for football. Pissed me off when he asked his favorite player, then-Raider Jerry Rice to talk to him after an Oakland-Cincinnati game, because he wanted to 'learn from the best', and then Rice didn't show up. If you watch any interview, Chad Johnson says he wants to be the best of all time, and when like Steve Levy asked him how good he thought he was, he said he wasn't even close to being the best in the league and still had a ton to improve. The man is never satisfied. I love it.

Agreed. Chad still showboats too much to be considered the true anti-TO. You never see Harrison show up people with his attitude. He just beats people with talent and lets his play do the talking. He doesn't get enough credit sometimes because people think Peyton makes him better, but the fact is that he is an excellent receiver who is in the top 5 in the league. He conducts himself with class at all times that we get to see. He is one of my favorite players in the NFL.

Agree completely and I have been a Bengal fan for 20+ years! But let's not go overboard with the love-in for Chad just yet. It is only a few months until he starts running his mouth to get his name in the news.

I'd argue he's a very good receiver who's been made to look even better by the QB, mainly because I've seen it with my own eyes. Imagine if a T.O. or Moss play for the Colts -- yowza. Of course, you could argue Marvin wasn't in his prime prior to Manning, but I'd say it's largely a Manning effect.

Also think of who his QB's were before Manning, and the type of offense they had. Manning makes all his recievers look good, but Harrison also is an amazing talent.

Exactly. It is his talent that allowed him to even get 71 catches and 900 plus yards with those pedestrian QB's before Manning. He is a great WR.

I think they feed off each other. If Manning didn't have a true #1 to throw to, he wouldn't be the QB that he is. And having a good QB has definitely helped Harrison.

At least Johnson is funny when he's shooting his mouth off. Whenever I hear T.O. talk, he strikes me as someone with the mentality of a 14-year old.

Chad's a big kid on the field. He truely has fun on the field. That's where a lot of the showboating and smack talk comes from. Most of it is done in a humorous manner that is meant to be just that-funny.

From speaking with him in person a couple times I find him to be very soft spoken and polite.

He is obviously more confident on the field than anywhere else and it shows.

One major difference between him and T.O. is his team attitude. He wants to win and when he doesn't you'll never hear him blaming Carson Palmer or anybody else on the team. Even when he has a great game in a losing effort, he says he could have done more. And NOBODY works harder at Paul Brown Stadium than CJ. He is the anti-TO.
