View Full Version : OT: What a fucking weird night

So I was working tonight (for a local video store) and everything was going fine. Around 9:30 I get a crank call from some schmuck with a deep voice groaning. I think nothing of it and hang up. I get another call 3 minutes later from the same guy saying, "I got you. I got your car." This wouldn't mean anything to me, except that 2 weeks ago my car was vandalized (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?t=39749)

Needless to say, I'm enraged. So I call the cops and they say there's no way to trace past calls, I'd have to get a trap on the line and it could only trace future calls. I don't think my company would ever go for that.

Anyway, the guy calls like 2-3 more times and talks with my coworker saying shit like "put kingneb on the phone" and "I know where he lives" and "I'm watching you guys, don't call the cops again!"

So yeah, what a fucking weird night. I wouldn't think so much of it, except for my recent issue with my car. I'm very angry and even more paranoid than normal. I seriously might start carrying a weapon or something. Very fucking angry.

This is unchartered territory for me, so I seek advice from my FOFC amigos. Any advice on what I should do? I'm going out for a bit now, cuz the adrenaline is still rushing through me.

What a fucking weird night.

Buy a gun. Make it obvious you bought a gun. Maybe get a gun rack for your bicycle or whatever you get to work with. Every night, take your gun apart in front of your window.

I also think its BS that they cant trace oast calls. Ive seen several shows based on real life events where they went back and looked at phone records. From what I have gathered, many officers are just too lazy, and they dont wanna waste their time on something petty.

Seriously, I would call the cops from home. The guy may have been watching you at work, but he can't see every room in your house. Just get away from any windows and call the cops. They have to take this kind of thing seriously, right?

Right?

"hi, did you just call me?"
"yes"
"what number is this?"
"fuck you"
"who are you?"
"fuck you"
"wow, this was enlightening"

Pyser: Because if I recall correctly a computer operator tells you the number that just called, and then offers to dial it for a fee. Step 1) Write down number; Step 3) Profit. ;)

hmm...the way i remember it, it just starts ringing.

its been a long time since someone hung up on me without saying anything, and me dialing *69 thinking it's the girl i have a crush on, and it being someone for my dad, and having to pay back the dollar it costs or whatever....

7th grade sucked.

I always thought fucking went after the adjective. "What a fucking weird night" just sounds awkward and seems like poor sentence structure. "What a weird fucking night" just has a smoother flow to it.

Star 69 is disabled at my work.

What a weird fucking night. Or a weird night for fucking...whatever ;)

I did tell the officer about the reference to the previous crime. He took down the name of a guy I fired in November (though it's probably not him). He's my best guess. I got nothing though.

Time to get a fucking big fucking gun :p

Rockstar

My first guess would be that it is indeed a coworker or a friend of a coworker. This same type of thing happened to my mom about twenty years ago. She kept getting crank calls at work for about six months. It turned out that they were from a coworker. One who mysteriously disapeared soon after getting the shit kicked out of her.

kingnebwsu

It's scary, because my face was on fire last night for about 5 hours. From the time I got the 2nd call until, well...like 4 AM. This makes me so angry. I think I have some anger management issues. Who knows what I'd do if I found out who did it. Where's a crowbar when you need it? :)

In a weird act of reverse-karma, I won my first 45-person poker tourney online tonight! I won a big $14. I'm damn proud of myself for that :)

ill ask the question that was already asked:

did they call you by your handle on FOFC or do you actually have people call you "king neb" in real life?

If its the former than that should narrow the field.

If its the latter than you probably deserve all of this for having people call you "king neb" at work...Id be pissed at you too.

It seems the police should be more involved, last time I checked making terrorist threats is a pretty serious crime. They don't have caller ID at your work, maybe they could get one installed.

Many phones have a caller ID feature built in.

I don't know if you have enough money... but ever thought of hiring a private investigator? If you can get a guy to at least get some legit evidence on who it is for sure, then maybe taking it to the police will have more success. Chances are if the guy suspected you called 911, and said he could see you, he's out in the parking lot or something, have a friend/PI just drive through and see if he can spot someone on a cell phone sitting in their car, especially if he sees someone you'd both know.

NYFAN

kingnebwsu
06-25-2005, 01:19 PM
This gun shit is scary, but it may be sadly necessary.

I put "kingneb" in place of my real name for FOFC purposes :)

Right after he called and said he was watching us (maybe 5-10 mins after), I walked outside and all the cars in the parking lot were accounted for. 2 were from papa john's and 2 were from my workplace.

Last night, we parked my car in a different lot. I don't want my new car to get beat up like my old one.

I don't think bringing in my own phone would matter, since I don't have a caller ID phone. Plus the line at work has 3 phone lines, which wouldn't work with my standard phones.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys and keep 'em coming :)

This is seriously one of the weirdest things to happen in my life. I guess this is what some people are like eh? Getting a sad taste of the real world.

JonInMiddleGA
06-25-2005, 01:25 PM
Okay this is totally off the wall, but I'll mention it just on the odd chance ... You've accounted for the cars that might have been connected to "watching us".

Any chance that the "watcher" might be in your own store or at Papa John's? A quick duck out of sight & a call from their cell phone would fit the scenario you describe.

Desnudo
06-25-2005, 01:32 PM
Or maybe he just made a logical guess that he'd call the cops.

You could always buy pepper spray or a stun gun. I find it hard to believe that you can't think of anyone who would do something like this. If the ex-employee is the only one that you can possibly think of, then definitely look into it.

I would avoid the gun theory (I'm not sure if those were jokes or not...). God forbid the guy does meet you face to face, and is a wackjob like he appears, he may use the gun against you... I would use this as a last resort. Pepper spray seems a bit safer, and still fair effective. Plus, then you don't have to deal with possibly being tried for homicide.

I would talk to your management about what is going on. I'd imagine that there are probably different laws than if this guy called you at your house than at your own workplace. Plus, if management doesn't do anything to help you out then you could probably have an argument against them for creating an 'unsafe' work environment . . .

Chances are, the guy just guessed correctly that you called the police... (Hmm.. why is this starting to sound like Werewolf?)

Did you actually hear him tell these things to your coworker?

Some of the lines I didn't hear him say to my coworker (like "I know where he lives" and that stuff). But I can vouch for him saying that he got my car.

I've fired 2 people and my boss has fired 2 people since I got at my store. There's only one guy I fired that would do this, but I fired him in November. I gave his info to the cops and they'll call him today (but if it's not him, then that could be a bad thing).

But I got someone else fired (a fellow store manager). At the last meeting, I rode in his car to get food, and I saw a bank deposit from his store sitting on the ground. I grabbed it after we got back and gave it to my boss. He was fired a few days later.

He's a teenager and he's possibly crazy enough to do this. When I told some coworkers about my car, they thought of him first (he hadn't even occurred to me).

My attitude I think is just fine, other than having to do my job and firing people who deserve it, but that comes with management.

Thankfully I'm transferring stores in a week, and I think I'll tell my staff to not say where I went. Just that I'm not at that store anymore.

I did voice mail my boss last night, detailing the events. I told him "Not only am I concerned for my safety, but also the safety of whoever I'm working with...and we should talk about this first thing on Monday." So I played the unsafe environment card already. I'll talk with him on Monday.

Crazy shit, eh?

Most phone companies can trace past calls. In an EXTREMELY crime ridden area such as Dayton (top 10 of cities over 100k), I'm sure they almost have to. The cops probably considered this low-risk and blew you off.

Is there any doubt in anyone else's mind the culprit is the guy I bolded above? Kingnebwsu, I understand your reasoning behind turning him in, but that definitely would be enough to really piss me off. If it is him, I by no means am justifying him harassing you or am I critizing you turning him in for the deposit. But I also am fairly (99%) certain this would cause someone to vandalize a car and make threatening phone calls. This is your man.
