Cavs will sign Hughes, 5 years, 65-70 million
Redd stays with the Bucks, Allen with the Sonics.
And most importantly Brian Scalabrine goes to the celts, 5 years 15 million.

Reed had 11 points (4-9 FG) in the first half, while Green had 10 points (4-5 FG) for the Celtics. Green provided the highlight of the night when he jammed over two Clippers. The dunk brought the fans to their feet for several minutes. The Celtics shot 43 percent (18-42 FG) for the half, out-rebounding the Clippers 30-16.

Dunking over Summer League Clipper scrubs? Aren't they just barely a step above a 7th grade girls BBall team? ;)

Former Clippers swingman Bobby Simmons agreed to a five year, $47 million deal with the Bucks on Friday, his agent Mark Bartelstein said.
"Bobby intends to sign with the Bucks when the moratorium ends," Bartelstein told ESPN.com. "He was very appreciative of the opportunity that the Clippers gave him but felt like this was the best opportunity for him."
The move is the clearest signal yet that the Bucks are serious about competiting for a championship this year. In the past week, they signed the No. 1 pick in the draft, Andrew Bogut, agreed to a six-year, $90 million dollar deal with Michael Redd and began the on the court rehab for point guard T.J. Ford.
The Bucks have two more significant free agents, Dan Gadzuric and Zaza Pachulia, that they are also trying to re-sign.
Simmons will join Desmond Mason, Jiri Welsch and Redd to form a pretty potent combination at the shooting guard and small forward positions. Mo Williams and hopefully Ford will take care of the point. Their only area of weakness now is at the four where Joe Smith is the only big guy holding down the fort.
The loss of Simmons, coming on the heels of the rejection by free agent Ray Allen, is yet another blow to the Clippers. Simmons had a breakout year for them and was a key to their success this season. However, head coach Mike Dunleavy was uncomfortable paying Simmons, who has played well for just one season, that type of money.
The Clippers could also lose free agent Marko Jaric this summer, putting into serious question their hopes of making the playoffs next season.
Big gamble on the part of the Bucks.

I think the Bucks are signing a lot of role players. Even with their impact center, they ought to be able to make the playoffs (hell, even the bulls did that) but..I'm not convinced that team is a championship club.
The Clippers could also lose free agent Marko Jaric this summer, putting into serious question their hopes of making the playoffs next season. I nearly did an old-fashioned double-take when I read that part.

The East's Central division is REALLY beginning to look tough.
Pacers - You know about them.
Detroit - Duh
Cleveland - Should have made the playoffs, then adds Larry Hughes
Milwaukee - 30 wins, but ads a legit center, and Bobby Simmons, could be getting TJ Ford back as well.
Bulls - 47 wins, and one of the youngest teams in the league.
====
You could could possibly finish LAST in this division, and still be fighting for a playoff spot next year. That's ridiculous.

This off-season's contracts are a real joke. That's little doubt.
Scalabrine is serving an important role in Boston, it's "community relations" as well as playing off the bench as a 9th man.
;)
He wasn't that bad in brief, brief stretches as a Net. He's not a starter or even a 6th man and that contract seems over the top to me. But...he's not that horrible.

All these contracts are making me double think just how easy it will be to re-up with Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler, and Chris Duhon this offseason. All of which are the Bulls' top priorities this summer. I hope it does not cost us TOO much.

Not as much as paying Larry Hughes $14 million per year when he has managed exactly 1 complete season in 7 years as a pro.

CLEVELAND -- Days after the Cleveland Cavaliers made waves with a marquee free-agent signing, Zydrunas Ilgauskas has elected to remain with the club.
Ilgauskas
Ilgauskas agreed in principle to a five-year deal on Monday, his agent, Herb Rudoy, told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.
According to Rudoy, Ilgauskas's contract is worth between $55 and $60 million.
Man, im glad the Cavs kept big Z, but damn, they were basically bidding against themselves. Hopefully Sharas comes over now, for reasonable money, and we can work something to Haslem. Danny Ferry is okay by me thus far.

The agent for Milwaukee Bucks center Dan Gadzuric said Monday that Gadzuric intends to resign with the Bucks later this month.
The deal is a six-year pact worth $36 million.
"We are committed to signing with the Bucks when the moratorium [on signing contracts] is lifted," said Bob Myers, Gadzuric's agent with SFX.
Free agents cannot officially sign contracts until July 22, which the league office has scheduled as the first day the NBA's new labor agreement takes effect.
Retaining Gadzuric is the latest move in a Milwaukee spending spree that has resulted in verbal commitments from star swingman Michael Redd and the Los Angeles Clippers' Bobby Simmons, the NBA's reigning Most Improved Player.
Gadzuric averaged 7.3 points, 8.3 rebounds in 22 minutes per game for the Bucks last season.

Is there any question that Isaiah Thomas is the most incompetant GM in the NBA by a wide margin? James certainly has some ability, but paying nearly $6M for 5 years to this guy is ridiculous. I figured somebody would overpay for James, and I'm not at all surprised it was the Knicks.
Good luck to Jerome, and for the sake of Knicks fans I hope he decides to put forth a full effort with them, but I have serious doubts they'll look back on this signing and not curse Thomas for it.

It is being reported that the Trail Blazers will sign and trade Shariff Abdul Rahim to the Nets. Kidd, Jefferson, Carter, Abdul-Rahim, and I guess Krstic will be a pretty good starting 5.
The Rockets have reportedly reached a deal with Stromile Swift for 5 yrs $30 million. Not a bad pickup, although it sounds like Abdul-Rahim is signing the same deal and I would rather have Abdul-Rahim over Swift.
[edit]No sign and trade for Portland. Abdul-Rahin just took the mid-level exemption the Nets were offering (sign and trade would have given him 1 more year).

The trade was first reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
The deal cannot be announced until the NBA finalizes its collective bargaining agreement.
The Kings will send guard Bobby Jackson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3191) to the Grizzlies -- a moved Jackson also confirmed to SportsTicker -- and center Greg Ostertag (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3030) back to Utah for a second tour of duty with the Jazz.
Utah also would send guard Raul Lopez (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3538) and Kirk Snyder (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3833) and forward Chris Borchardt to Memphis.
West, the Grizzlies' president, had been trying to deal the 6-foot-7 Wells since he was removed from the squad during this past season's playoffs. The 29-year-old Wells averaged 10.4 points -- his lowest mark since the 1999-2000 campaign with the Portland Trail Blazers -- in 69 games for the Grizzlies last season.
The 32-year-old Jackson had been a valuable contributor off the Kings' bench in recent seasons but, slowed by numerous injuries, averaged just 12.0 points in 25 games this past campaign.
Information from SportsTicker was used in this report.

Yeah, exactly. Now i hope we work on that Jaric and Wilcox for Gooden and Pavs trade they were talking about last week, even if it was fake. We cant go into the season with Eric Snow as the #1 PG. Unless you plan to run a starting line of Lebron/Hughes/Marshall/Gooden/Z. But that leaves your bench pretty weak, with only Verejao(quickly becoming my fave player), Snow, Newble and Jackson on the bench.
I think the SJ thing had a lot to do with the fact that the Cavs dont know for sure how much cap room they actually have, and because it could be from 2 to 4 million, they couldnt make him a tangible offer.

In the NBA, no. In the olympics he was great. Including 28 pts vs the NBA "Dream Team" or whatever joke of a name they use now.
Regardless, if nothing else he's a fiery competitor who doesn't like to lose. A good team leader, and a guy who can shoot from anywhere on the court. All are things Cleveland could have definetly used for a low price of 3-5 million a year.

This according to rotoworld...
Bulls trade center Eddy Curry to the Knicks.
John Paxson is refusing to say who else was included in the deal, but it's likely the Knicks received Tim Thomas and either Trevor Ariza or David Lee in return. It's also likely the Bulls are sending Janerro Pargo to New York as well. We'll know the details in the morning when the deal is officially announced. This completely changes Curry's fantasy outlook, as the Knicks won't make him take a DNA test. If Curry can play, he'll start at center for the Knicks. Jerome James can't be pleased about this, as he will be nothing more than a backup now, which is probably where he belongs. Oct. 3 - 9:11 pm et
Thus making the Jerome James signing all the more mind boggling.

Might we expect a James-Curry tandem in the Knicks' front-court? Who else do they have up from anyway? Rookies?
Knicks are going to be... interesting to watch.
A 'healthy' Allan Houston (whom the Knicks didn't use the freaking clause that was named after him!) coupled with QRich and Starbury.
It's going to be a messy year in NY.
Teams I'm going to be following:
Heat (that team is built to win a title NOW. if they don't implode midway through the year)
Lakers (first time i've seen Phil Jackson in a rebuilding role since MJ's first retirement)
Jazz (AK-47 is back, and healthy, and ready to rumble!... and he's going to power the Jazz back to the top with consistent 5x5 stat sheets (at least 5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks per game). Of course, it doesn't hurt that their brand new rookie PG (Deron Williams) is a workhorse and a born leader.

Bulls send Curry to Knicks

DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The Bulls dealt center Eddy Curry to the New York Knicks on Monday, ending a contentious negotiation in which Chicago insisted the restricted free agent take a DNA test over a heart problem.
In making the announcement, an obviously frustrated Bulls general manager John Paxson did not specify what Chicago got in return and he did not field questions.
``We will have an announcement tomorrow morning,'' Bulls public relations director Sebrina Brewster said Monday night. ``All we can say right now is we traded Eddy to the Knicks.''
Knicks spokesman Jonathan Supranowitz said the team declined comment on Paxson's announcement.
The Bulls had insisted that Curry take a DNA test to determine whether he's susceptible to a potentially fatal heart problem. Curry, who missed the final 13 games of the regular season and the playoffs after experiencing an irregular heartbeat, balked, saying it violated his privacy.
``I would never put a player on the floor in a Chicago Bulls uniform if I didn't do everything in my power to find out all the information that was available,'' Paxson said. ``You can debate genetic testing 'til you're blue in the face. But from what I know, from what I've learned over the last six months, that test could have helped us determine the best course of action.''
Curry, drafted right out of high school, averaged a career-high 16.1 points in his fourth NBA season.
The standoff stemmed from a benign arrhythmia that caused Curry to miss the final 13 games of the regular season and the playoffs.
Several prominent cardiologists cleared Curry to play, but Barry Maron, a world-renowned specialist in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, suggested the DNA test.
Paxson has said he understands the privacy issues involved but insisted the Bulls do not have an ulterior motive; they simply do not want a situation similar to those of former Boston Celtics guard Reggie Lewis or Loyola Marymount star Hank Gathers -- players with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who collapsed and died.
Paxson, speaking during the team's media day, told reporters the Bulls had offered Curry $400,000 annually for the next 50 years if he failed the genetic test.
``So he would have an above-average lifestyle that would put him in a position that most other people aren't in,'' Paxson said. ``Our intention through that whole process was to show him that we did care about him and that we were concerned about his well-being.''
Curry's agent Leon Rose did not return calls seeking comment Monday.
Paxson said he resented insinuations that the Bulls were on a sort of witch hunt, trying to find information on Curry.
The general manager started by asking reporters to ``let me ramble a minute.'' After a long pause, he said, ``This has been about as uncomfortable and unusual a situation I could ever imagine. We've attempted from Day 1 to do the right thing, and I'm absolutely confident that we have in every way we went about it. And in a lot of ways we've met resistance in trying to gather all the information we feel we need.''
About three minutes later, Paxson said, ``From a basketball standpoint, I understand what I'm doing. But I have an obligation to this organization and the people I work for to do the right thing. And I did the right thing. That's all I've got to say.''
Then, he walked away from the table.
That Curry and the Bulls parted was not shocking, given the tone of the negotiations.
Curry played a major role as the Bulls won 47 games and reached the playoffs for the first time since 1998 -- when Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen led them to their sixth NBA title.
``It's tough,'' said power forward Tyson Chandler, who re-signed with the Bulls for six years during the offseason. ``I'm sad to see him go.''
