Just wondering who else caught his article about Dusty Baker the other day. I'm not trying to be racist here, but can a black journalist make an argument without bringing race into the discussion? The reason people want Dusty Baker gone is because he hasn't managed the team well. Hell people have called for Jack McKeon's job, and he won a World Series 2 years ago. If he wants to argue there need to be more black journalists, than say that, but don't accuse the white media of having some kind of agenda against a black manager. I mean, there's some vast conspiracy of the white media planting rumors Dusty wants to leave. Perhaps Scoop should look into the mirror to see why black journalists can possibly be overlooked for jobs. Its because people are tired of being told they're racist everytime they pick up a column or turn on a TV.

I saw it and thought it was horrible. This guy is just continuing the Ralph Wiley "I've got nothing interesting to say, so let's find a racial issue where one doesn't exist to conjure up an article" card. I'm sorry the guy is dead, but that's all he was. Any legitimate racial issues he might have written about - and this guy might write about - are now overshadowed by my memory of tripe like this.

As a Cub fan I'm torn on Dusty. On one hand, it took him half a year to find a lead off hitter in Hairston; his management of the pitching staff has improved in 3 seasons, but is still a head scratcher at times; and he doesn't seem to be on the same page as the GM--which is a dangerous thing for an organization. On the other hand, despite all the injuries over the past 3 years, despite underachiving performances by Sosa and the bullpen, he has the team on the brink of a 3rd straight better than .500 season; and he has killed this 'lovable loser' thing once and for all--where everyone thought the Cubs would love a winner, he isn't loved because he doesn't win enough.

Dusty was the right move in 2003--and his problems with the media is nothing a better bullpen wouldn't cure.

I felt that was one of the worst articles I've in years, content-wise. If he wants to write about the lack of black journalists and sports radio hosts in chicago, that's a different story. But to make a leap and say that Dusty is in perceived trouble only because he's black is totally asinine. Hell, the Red Sox are coming off a world series and Boston sports radio has called for Francona's job a few times.

See, FU Scoop Jackson. now you've got me comparing the Cubs to the Red Sox. That's the last thing in the world I want to be doing.
