I'm selling my computer on ebay, and I receive an email from a person asking me for the serial number...is there any reason to part with this information? All I can think of are bad things happening if i give that information out. Can anyone think of why that may be useful to somebody?

I think it might allow them to check to see that it is the model that you say it is. However, I'm suspicious of EBay by nature (I've had a few bad deals there) and I wouldn't give out that info.

They could also check if it is stolen.

No, there isn't anything bad that can come from that. They would most likely use that info to see if that PC does exsist and to make sure that model is what you say it is. That seriel number is mostly used for businesses or they usually come with PC's that were already pre-made (I am assuming yours was?).
