Today, 15 Aug 2005 marks 60 years since the end of World War II. Today it seems that there are no major celebrations here in the U.S. to commemorate the end of the most tragic 6 years in world history. The Pacific War seems to have been almost a footnote back then as it is now. Let us remember those that fought and survived and pray that such events never ever again happen.

The press only covers bad news like when the 21 protestors staged a peace rally in San Francisco to protest what WE did in WWII.

Sd, but true. What irritates me is that the atrocities that Japan's armies comitted in Nanking, Indochina, Palawan are given any air time or not put into context by those said protestors.

Oh for those interested History Channel is airing a documentary on Operation Olympic tonite! I think its called : X DAY.

God Bless everyone whose lives have been touched in one way or another by the last great war. And let's pray nothing ever comes close to the horrors of that war.

My grandfather fought in the Pacific. Growing up in Maryland, we were big on eating blue crabs (obviously - it's the thing to do in Maryland). We used to go to crab houses and EVERYONE would eat crabs except for my grandfather. He was the most jovial, loving guy you'd ever want to meet - he'd even laugh and smile at you as he ordered a hamburger. Finally, I asked my mother why he never ate crabs with us. My mother told me that when they were in the Pacific, they would dredge up the bodies of sailors and they would be covered in crabs. Because of this, my grandfather understandably never ate them.

You're no longer with us, Pop, but you'll always be in my thoughts.

Not to mention Pearl Harbor, in my opinion a much more despicable act than Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

I don't think the two could really be compared objectively.

Pearl Harbor was a military attack on a military base against military personell at a time of uneasy peace.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima were military attacks on largely civilian populated cities at a time of waning war.

The press doesn't cover any news anymore, period. You forget that the network news carried very good WWII anniversary coverage up through the 80s.

These days, most TV news (including CNN & Fox), pretty much except for PBS, are slaves to ratings. The ratings have spoken: more blondes lost in Aruba, and less real news...

Yeah I've been joking for a while that CNN is little more than the "Missing Persons Network." If an attractive, preferably female, preferably wealthy someone goes missing, we're on the scene!

Well, the alternative is Fox where I just saw them a few days ago sitting there for 2 minutes and taking pot shots at CNN gaffes. Class outfit over there.

That makes me think of the Daily Show commercial where Stewart talked about how a certain percentage of people got their news from TDS and he proceeded to loudly say "DON'T DO THAT!" or something to that effect.

Well, he's right; compared to FOFC the Daily Show is really no better than Fox or CNN.
