One of the newest members of the media didn't have a problem getting into Florida State's closed practice Tuesday. Being Chris Rix still opens up doors.
Even careers.
Rix said he stumbled into an opportunity with Fox Sports Radio as a college football analyst. He said he will also cover high school games on television this season for a Fox affiliate in Southern California. The radio appearances will give the former FSU quarterback national exposure.
"I didn't see it coming," Rix said. "They called me out of nowhere. So I'm looking forward to it. They're not asking much of me. Basically just for my opinions a couple times every Saturday. So it should be fun."
Rix, living in Newport Beach, Calif., said he also has started a business training athletes.
"I'm happily married for two months now and very blessed," said Rix, who had his wife, Anita, by his side on the practice fields. "Very content with life. It's good getting a little break from the game."
Rix's visit to Tallahassee also will give him the chance to check out today's scrimmage. He said quarterbacks Xavier Lee and Drew Weatherford are making progress.
"I know Drew and I know Xavier, and I know their work ethic," Rix said. "They know they have to be ready in a matter of a couple of weeks."
FSU closed practices to the media this week.
