Given the events of this week, how is this going to affect your Labor Day, especially those that we going to travel somewhere by car?

Are you afraid of gas shortages causing you to get stuck somewhere?

This may seem insensitive (I don't mean to offend), but I'm curious how this will affect everyone who is not directly affected by the storm.

Wife has already cancelled her plans to head to lower Alabama for a major antique auction (and to pick up some stuff she bought there last time). Given the gas situation I just ran into (see the Katrina thread), I'm fully expecting to be right here watching TV all weekend.

We were supposed to drive Atlanta - Columbus OH for the USA - Mexico World Cup qualifier, but we are looking at cancelling because of this.

Just looking to see if we are being way too serious about this.

I'm looking at either driving back to Baton Rouge or somewhere else in LA, or driving up to NJ from AR. Either way, I'm dreading the possibility of gas shortages thwarting us on our trip. Obviously, neither of those trips are for pleasure.

I will be traveling down the street about a mile and a half to a buddies house where we plan to have a X-Box LAN Party and play Halo 2 until our heads explode.

Fun!

Driving to Clemson, SC from Dayton, OH to watch the Clemson v. Texas A&M home opener for the Tigers. I already bought 3 tix for $50+ each, so I'm still freaking going. Plus, if we get stuck, there's family in the area.

We still have decided to take a short trip rather than the cheaper alternative of going camping. Labor day is the last sane holiday before the hectic holidays hit so we are going to the House on the Rock in WI or Amana Colonies ...as long as we have a hotel with a whirlpool. :)

I'm out in the Bay Area right now at my company's HQ, and my parents are flying out here tomorrow for the long weekend. I lived out here for 7 years, and they never came for a visit. :) So they are going camping with me and some of my Bay Area friends, and a few of us are going to go abalone diving off of the coast by Fort Ross. Then a little bit of sightseeing in San Fran next week before they fly back to Texas.

My wife and son are travelling with the in-laws to their condo at Orange Beach, AL, tomorrow morning. At least, as of right now that trip is still on. Ivan ravaged them and this if a trip they take every year for our son's birthday, so this is a pretty special trip to get back in there. They had turned power and water off as a precaution I believe but it is all back on now. As of right now they do not plan on cancelling the trip because of gasoline issues.

As for me, the wedding last year took all my vacation I had in reserve at the time and a couple of trips early this year have kept me basically at zero vacation throughout the year, so I can't take the days off for this one. There is nothing preventing me from making the trip upstairs for glorious extended poker sessions while I have the house to myself for a few days.

We went there 7 yrs ago before we were married and had 2 kids so I cant remember if it would be something enjoyable for the kids. We have a 5 yr old girl and almost 2 year old boy.

I was supposed to go to Mt. Pleasant, MI, on Friday for the CMU/Indiana game, that fell through, but I'm still going to the Michigan/No. Ill. game on Saturday. Only about a 45-minute drive so gas not really an issue for that.

D'oh! Well, there are news reports coming out of Austin about student rioting, we'll have to see how the situation plays out...

We're taking a trip from Phoenix to Los Angeles this Friday and cancelling the trip isn't even an option. Our little girl (4 yrs old) is looking forward to seeing her cousins so there's no way in hell we're cancelling.

We are going to New York to see my grandparents and go to the US Open. Never even discussed not going. The price increase is minimal in my mind.

The Wife is starting her job (Manager training for a video store chain) this weekend--so I'm staying in and playing LOTS of OOTP!
